It's a beautiful church, I supose the city is making punishing demands to discourage renovation, so they can replace it with a multiplex.

What next?.........now the city is cutting itself in on the "Tithe?" Pretty sad state of affairs when they rty to extort god!

Now the petty bureaucrats are starting to push the churches around. This is just the beginning. Their agendas will have blue stickers on a number of churches before too long. They won't work with common people, and I doubt they will work with churches either.

They will have their short notices, and ridiculous lists demanding churches spend all kinds of money.

The church is a significant historic landmark in Frogtown. Any one have any solutions on how to at least save the structure?

I should have posted this sooner.

Bob,

I just noticed the Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Chuch on Dale Street near University Avenue has a blue sticker on its door.

As I recall, the church was listed last year as one of the most endangered historic structures in the state. Just looking at it, there is a serious safety issue, as the tiles are falling off the steeple onto the sidewalk.

It does raise some questions. Is the city making punitive code demands with a church in order to drive them out? Will the city work with the churches? Since a lot of churches are struggling, does this mean the city is now going to target churches?

I'd prefer you not use my name on this if you use it.

I don't think the city like Baptists!

This is where a lot of bitterness lies.

A sharp entrepreneur could see this church as a wedding chapel, place for memorial services, special events, fundraisers, classes, spiritual retreats, community events, etc.

They could piece together a package with other entrepreneurs, small congregations, and use the connected office building for upscale offices.

But here's the problem. They don't think St. Paul deserves it, and they don't want to work with predatory inspectors and the city groups. Most people with any smarts have moved on. Only one in ten of these things with any potential actually get developed.

The city council is following an inspector mindset of looking deeply at minute things, and claiming to see progress. What they miss seeing is exactly how much their predatory policies are costing the city in the big picture.

And it keeps getting worse.

How can Bob even say that the city is after the church when its compiled nine years of violations?

I swear the stupidest people in the county contribute to this blog.

I heard that the city is going to take the pews and install them in city hall. Then they will replace Onyx John by the erection of a giant organ (Thunes) and the true believers will kiss and pay homage to it.

My response;
ON THE FRONT PAGE, IT CLEARLY STATES THIS TOPIC IS A REQUEST. WHERE DID I STATE HERE THE CITY WAS AFTER THE CHURCH? I DIDN'T GIVE MY OPINION.

But I will NOW!

Last summer Grace Kelly put up a request for volunteers at Saint Paul Issues and Forums seeking help for a woman over by Swede Hollow to fix up her home. I thought this was a great thing a non-profit was here doing this kind of work. I thought about volunteering and I went over and looked at the home. It looked better than most homes the city is taking away from citizens. Sure the house needed work but, I believe the resources of this non-profit would have been better spent on a citizen who was in dire need! OR, a church like this.

Nobody helped Rita and Gary of 785 Butternut
fix their home. If someone had volunteered some help, and the city officials dealing with the issue of their home had a heart, Rita may have lived a few more years with her illness. And Gary certainly would not have committed suicide over the loss of Rita and his home at the same time.
