Candidate debates always have the unknown factor to them.
And the final days before an election always witness mucho mud being thrown.
So the Scoop was slightly surprised to learn that St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and first-time candidate Eva Ng have agreed to a debate the day before Election Day.
Minnesota Public Radio's Gary Eichten confirmed to the Scoop that he'll host the pair at the station on Midday Monday, Nov. 2. Details are still being worked out, such as whether it'll be at 11 a.m. or noon, and whether it'll be in studio or the station's UBS Forum.
That'll be the pair's second debate. The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a debate from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Hillcrest Auditorium of the Highland Park Library. (Ng has also challenged Coleman to seven other debates, one in each ward, but that notion is going nowhere.)
Coleman, a Democrat, is the heavy favorite over Ng, who has the backing of Republicans. So it's no surprise Ng would want as many debates as possible -- and as late as possible. But agreeing to a last-minute debate is a risk for Coleman, should some sort of a bombshell -- truthful or not -- drop without ample time to respond.
But Coleman, who's also seen as a 2010 gubernatorial candidate even though he hasn't announced, apparently is plenty confident over his re-election chances
Good Bye Coleman, your out.
He's out my butt! This babe is just like the rest of the Republicans......afraid of their shadows. It's pretty hard to win when you spend all your time cowering in a corner and afraid to even admit who you are or who you represent. Coleman will win with a landlslide. The Republicans putting Eva up for a candidate is just as rediculous as when they ran McCain.
