Since blacks, hispanics, youth, and Asians voted in record numbes too, don't we get some credit? You still talking about separate Americas. Walk into the 21st Century Bob. One America, many colors.

Now that North Carolina has been called for Obama. That makes ten Bush states that have flipped for Obama. Obama won in the Northeast, Midwest, South, Southwest and West Coast. He's changed the map and brought more into the fold.

The first thing he said was that he wants to be the President of all of us and those who didn't support him, he would like to reach out and earn it.

That's a uniter.

Some of these A Democracy readers need to read W.E.B. Du Bois theory on racial inequality and his double conciousness theory and color line that have effects on society. We are one human species its time to accept it!

The US was in desperate need for a change and this may just be the change we all needed.

Eric, the post and title was a request. I guess I will have to start noting if it is my post or others. Eric, you seem to want desperately to put a jacket on me.

Alan Keyes, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and former Senator and Ambassador Carol Molsley Braun are all black and ran for President and did not get more than 10% from blacks. Obama earned every vote from the different groups he got.

Alan Keyes is a crazy hateful hypocrite of a man who disowned his daughter for being gay. He's also a four time loser two for Senate (Maryland and Illinois) and two for President.

Hell he was arrested one time outside of the Republican debates for not being allowed to speak.

Try again Bob and how about erasing that McDonalds comment from the idiot?

Obama ran the best campaign in the history of presidential campaigns. Even the Republicans operatives note this. 20,000 employees in 50 states and 3 territories.

He'll do fine. The whole world is pushing for his success. This morning I saw photos of people watching OUR elections in Israel, Indonesia, Japan, Iraq, Mid-East Military bases, Kenya, Senegal, France, London, Germany, Eygypt, South Africa,Czech Republic and others. People were celebrating like we were. Being an American we don't look so close to other countries. Last night and this morning reminded me that we are the leaders in the world and the world roots for us. They don't have to fear us.

Eric Bush said the same thing. It changes once you have your pertys grubby mits all over you.Its the honeymoon and it will take 180 days on the job to see how he will lead.I don't know.Talk is cheap actions are louder.

Another thing Obama only got 1.5% more votes then Bush in 2004.It wasn't a landslide and should have. The number 1 reason Americans voted for him is becuase the economy.I hope he delivers.Like I told my kids I don't care who he is or what party he belongs to I want America to do well.

Jim,
You know this is not an overall popular vote contest. If that was the case Gore would be finishing his second term since he got more votes than Bush the first.

The key is 'where' you get them in proportion to the electoral college votes.

With one state still out Obama has 370 Electoral votes and Bush had 286. 270 out of a total of 538 is needed to be President.

President Bush got 62,040,610 votes total in 2004. Obama is ahead by almost 2%- today. The vote totals today for Obama are not firm as about five states, four he won (We still aren't sure about Missouri)are not done tallying. What I could find would put him right above 67,000,000. Even with today's number of 64,058,0618 for Obama, he is the most popular elected president in history.

The big news is the states won. Obama won most of the states. All of the Kerry states plus at least 10 states won by Bush in every corner of the country.

That's that story.

I too, am pushing for him to be successful and am confident that he will be.

Watch Russia for our first test. Those jerks came out threatening to put missles on Poland's border.

Pete- blacks vote 90% for Democratic Presidents anyway. Obama increased that by 7%. Not racist at all- but you keep trying, I'm sure you'll find something. Oh, whites also increased their support by 7% over for Obama over Kerry. We they all racists too? Hispanics were the winner. They went for Obama by more than 20% over Bush just four years earlier. I guess you'll tell us that they were racist too. Let it go man, your day is over.

You hear that Pete? Blacks voted 90% for Kerry, Gore and Dukakis. 94% for LBJ and 92% for Mondale. Clinton only garnered 83% and 84% respectively. Last I checked all of those were white guys.

So, are we going to have to deal with the racist comments everyday because we have a black President? Get it out of your system now. Its up to you Bob if you want to leave them to stand.

Your talking %percent of the votes.I'm talking the number of blacks that voted.I will bet you that more blacks voted in this election than any other one.I'm just asking a question.

Hi All,

I made the following statement for a reason.

"Think about this, would a dark skinned black man like Allen Keys have a chance at being elected?"

My belief is; It is common belief among many black folks, lighter skinned blacks are socially accepted more by white America over a dark skinned black person.

Today on the Chris Baker Radio Show 100.3 FM black folks were calling in and claiming exactly what I was getting to, and that is there is still racism deep seated in America. I was watching the Tyra Banks Show a while back, a program on racism, she had an audience of black folks also claiming light skinned blacks have an advantage over dark skinned blacks in our country.

And to all you Keys haters, look in the mirror and admit you dislike Allen Keys because he is a black conservative. You lefty's never give credit to great black conservatives who have accomplished great things in there life like Allen Keys, Clarence Thomas and others.

Rod (ignoring the comment from 10:16),
There are lots of complex reasons why as a whole the black community is not rising at the same rate. I will be the first to say that same, I repeat, some of that is self inflicted. Lots of social priorities that only can be solved from within.

On here, for the most part, you all deal some of the poorest of the poor. I will submit that that same economic group of whites will reflect similar trends.

One thing you have to do, is remember that its not 'all', or close to 'all'. You can't tell by the way we look or talk if we are educated hard workers, or 'slackers'. Unfortunately, we all seem to get lumped in the same category. Whites are given the benefit of doubt of being a decent person until they act like an ass. Minorities are all considered to be of a certain way, until they act decent. There you have one crux of the problem on your end. Its not just Froggy-type racists either, whites in general. I can't tell you how many times I deal with that bullshit.

Rather you have some teenagers hanging out dressed like teenagers all over the state do, or open a bar that caters to blacks or latinos, its approached as undesirable unless you really know them.

I play cards with several other guys, of the black guys, all but one are attorneys. All but two are married. All are under 35.

That's who's moving into the Eastside and St Paul. You wouldn't know that if you think every black person is here to bring the quality of life down. You need to give them a chance because you don't know.

I was going to go on and on but, I have learned one thing, serious issues do not fair a solid conversation in A-Democracy. If yo can't put it on a bumper sticker, most on here don't want to hear it or read it.

Somebody answer me this question.

New Orleans is unquestionably a Black city.

It's run by Mayor Nagin because it's predominatley Black population voted for him.

This guy Nagin is there to keep the lid on these blacks from total upheavle and destruction on the premis that blacks understand each other.

This is why, and it seems
obvious that communitys that consist of either Mexicans, mongs, blacks, asians,
whites, etc. have elected political officials of their respective races.

This makes it more likly that Obama was elected by his own race partly because of his race.

Come on, blacks had two choices, a white man and woman or a black man who chose a white man for a running mate.

While I can agree that Obama is better suited than McCain to lead this country(I am white) you just can't ignore the oppression and discriminating factors that cause blacks to want to vote for a black man or woman for president just to make a point.

For once, Blacks have something to really look forward to with Obama.

He offers hope for them although I don't believe he came right out and said he would do anything more for blacks than any other race.

But, the blacks believe he is their messiah in the spirit of Martin Luther King.

Just face the fact that people do vote based on race if not for anything else.

The elected officials in their respective segregated communitys is proof.
