From the Pioneer Press

The homes of Minnesota's five members of Congress — Sens. Norm Coleman and Amy Klobuchar, Reps. John Kline, Jim Ramstad and Michele Bachmann-- were hit with graffiti last night or early this morning.
The garage of Sen. Norm Coleman's Crocus Hill home was marked with the black painted words: "U R A criminal," "Resign or else!" and the word "Scum," written multiple times.
Similar messages were painted on Klobuchar's Minneapolis home, Kline's Lakeville home, Ramstad's Minnetonka home and Bachmann's Stillwater home.
The incidents have all been reported to local police and U.S. Capitol security.
Laurie and Sarah Coleman, the Senator's wife and daughter, were home when their home was hit. Kline and Ramstad were also home. Bachmann and her family, who just moved to a new home in West Lakeland township, were not at home.
"It takes your breath away," Laurie Coleman said.
She said the incident was frightening. Laurie Coleman said she never felt unsafe in the neighborhood, although there was at least one previous incident of someone marking the family's garage with "foul language."
This incident, however, is different, she said.
"This is just threatening," Laurie Coleman said.

Police in St. Paul, Lakeville and Minnetonka all said that they will step up patrols in the Congressmembers' neighborhoods in the wake of the graffiti.
"It does take it to a higher level when it's a U.S. Senator," Peter Panos, the St. Paul police spokesman, said
Minnetonka Police Chief Mark Raquet said Ramstad called the police about 5:30 this morning to report the vandalism.
His Minnetonka garage was spray-painted with the word, "Scum," and "U R a sellout" and also the phrase "Psalm 2."
Lance Olson, spokesman for Ramstad, said that the Congressman got home sometime after 9 p.m. and woke up this morning to see the words on his garage.
At a Stillwater forum today, Bachmann refused to talk to reporters about anything.
Her campaign manager, Michelle Marston, said the graffiti on the Congresswoman's house and driveway was discovered this morning after a staffer heard from U.S. Capitol police about the other Republican representatives being hit. As the staffer arrived at the Stillwater home, which the Congresswoman is trying to sell, a realtor was arriving at the home with clients.
Marston said the black spray-painted message said, "Scum," "Psalm 2" "Resign Now" and "Vote no on the bailout."

She said that the congresswoman's offices have gotten nastier messages via email and phone call in recent days. Bachmann has been under fire since last week for saying on national television that she was concerned Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama may have anti-American views.
Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken and the Independence Party's Senate candidate Dean Barkley both condemned the vandalism of their political rival's home.
"There's no place for this unacceptable behavior in our political process, or in our communities," said a statement from Franken's campaign.
Franken's campaign office has been hit by vandals over last several months who wrote the words, "Crazy" and "No New Taxes" and other words.

The Democratic Farmer Labor Party chair joined in condemning the vandalism.
"I deplore and condemn the vandalism against the property of Senator Coleman and other Republican officeholders. The immaturity and stupidity of these crimes should offend every citizen, regardless of politics. If Norm Coleman and the others are going to be held accountable for their poor stewardship, then it must be done the American way — at the ballot box and in public discourse, not in the dead of night with a can of spray paint," Brian Melendez said.
Coleman has been on the road with his campaign for the last few days but is expected to make a statement about the incident in Baxter this afternoon.

Amy Klobuchar is a Democrat. So, it may have been a nonpartisan idiot.

That is just very sad an interesting commentary on how ugly politics has gotten. Clearly this was an organized effort from some whacko.

In case folks wanted to know what the Psalm 2 reference was... CR

Psalm 2 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain

Psalm 2
1Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.

5Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

10Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Six Minnesota Congress members' homes vandalized

So, its not just Republicans- even in the story Bob posted. But, telling the truth would not advance your agenda so you leave it as 'Republicans targeted' and sit back to watch your seals start yelping about the city and Democrats.

I did notice that when the discussion was of actual substance (mortgage) very few had anything to add.

It speaks volumes.

If you believe that, you'd be best to just jump off a building tomorrow.

Right Jim,

The solution to all of our misery is to elect people who have no idea how the government works. That's the ticket...

Unfortunately, the world is a little more complicated than right wing talk radio would have you believe.

As someone who I once worked on their campaign said to me when they decided not to run for reelection... "trying to change the bureaucracy is like trying to stop a glacier."

There are reasons why policies and laws were written. There are competing interests in every area. What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander.

Clearly this clown that attacked the elected officials is some right wing christian nut case that listened to talk radio and believed that the vote for the banks was the start of communism and an assault on god... that is the common thread in the attack.

Bob, ever the partisan.

my response;

I am partisan to some extent, however, I would NEVER vandalize property or harm anyone physically.

I am a bit of a militant in the sense that I will break an unjust law without a second thought. I feel it is my responsibility to break unjust laws should the occasion come about.Example- I violate the yield to pedestrians law often. I do it because I am concerned for the safety of the pedestrian. I ponder what our legislators were thinking when they passed a law that endangers citizens?

The story would have been a better read if somebody like my son had caught these jerks in the act of spray painting this garage. :-)

Bob,
You got called a partisan because when it came to posting a story that shows republicans as victims of democrats you do it without checking it out. Even now, you took time to respond to me but not correct the record.

24 hours later we know that it was a bi-partisan targeted hit. Christian, Jew, Muslim. Black and White. Men and Women. Conservative and Liberal. They were all targeted- not just local republicans as Bob report.

Jim,

There are plenty of good people serving. I don't care 'too much' how long they serve as long as they are representing well. However, its inevitable that they will loose the touch they once had with their constituents, its then time for a break. Dave Thune represents well because he's stayed in touch and even left office for a while.

I don't think you agree with him on his policies but, his people keep sending him back. And to be honest, Thune is pretty accessible.

Maybe when I'm older but, its tough to see myself out there on the campaign trail anytime soon.

No. The solution is to elect people who will make government easier and more transparent to understand.

I know you'd hate that, but a lot of us'd really dig it.

my response;

Eric,

The blog would not be very interesting if I had all the answers. We have enough "Dick Tracy" posters here if something isn't accurate it is usually exposed.

Also, I do not have the time to investigate every story sent to me. I am a handyman. This is a very busy time of the year for me winterizing homes. I also donate time to folks who cannot afford to repair their homes, anywhere from 5to 15 hours a week. On top of all this I tend to this blog which can be very depressing with all the sad stories I hear and post. I have taken a bit of a break from A Dem lately but still posted what I think would be interesting story's.

While I have been taking my vacation from A Democracy, my lady of 13 years had a heart attack. She is only 39 and it is her 2nd heart attack within a year.

I will be back in the swing of things soon with some very interesting stuff.

A bipartisan hit? Your nuts Eric. This was DFL all the way. They just sacrificed a few of their own to make it look like it wasn't them. Everyone knows who's in back of it. It's a classic DFL deal. Anyone they don't like, they just slander the hell out of them trying to drive a wedge. When that doesn't work, they send out people in the night to get the message across in another way.
