That video was enough to make me sick! The only results that have come of his term as council are; an increase in violent crimes and a increase in vacant homes which also increased the homeless population. I haven't seen Helgen contribute a single effort that one would consider a positive effect on the North End area. The North End community needs a change!

Helgen is still blaming businesses for crime they are not responsible for. Ask Deb Johnson at Divas Bar!

Lee, your problem property approach to crime is a failure. Crime is rising.

Get a clue it is insanity to keep pushing the same agenda when it has proven to be failure.

People commit crimes not buildings.

Arrest bad people don't hold their landlords responsible for these peoples mistakes. That is CRAZY!

Closing up a so called problem property only spreads the trouble to some other neighborhood.

Oh I get it. The same bad people can make the City council look good over and over, since the council pushs them from one neighborhood to the next and all awhile the people in these neighborhoods think the council has done something to clean up their neighborhood.

I see the value of these problem people in our neighborhoods. They help the City Council appear to be doing something.

I am ashamed of this gutless leadership in Saint Paul.

All this talk about improving the neighborhoods but what has taken place to actually do just that "improve"? Violent crime has risen, and the number of vacant buildings have sky rocketed.

Now all of a sudden is this talk about programs to help people of the community with these repairs.

There are several different community groups that could have an impact on the success of making St.Paul a safer community. There are groups to help citizens with just about everything, I feel that part of the problem is that people are unaware of these programs and groups. I think a community focused newsletter would be beneficial in letting the public know what is being offered and when in their neighborhood.

You know we can all sit here at our computers and complain about these city officials and their tactics that have proven themselves to be ineffective, I suggest that we start doing something to promote a change other than just writing comments on blogs that don't seem to be giving us much success.

There are many homes that are in danger of becoming the next condemnation followed by a complete code compliance, all of which leaves another family homeless. Maybe we could focus our internet skills on programs that are available not only for homes in danger but also programs for families at risk of entering the system whether it be child neglect due to lack of parenting skills or a teenage child that a family needs some mentoring help with to prevent the child from becoming a delinquent.

There are programs available and many of them are actually very good, the problem is that many of the programs aren't offered until a child has already gotten caught up in the justice system. So maybe Bob could post a topic for a list of programs and suggest that could be made available for families.

Just an idea?

2:46, I agree to some extent, however, I would not say that talking about these issues on blogs has no effect.

It appears to me the City has stopped it's rantings of "Problem Property's.

From what I see in the last Mayoral address posted here, Coleman is assuming a responsible position.

I feel this is a direct response to this blog.

Yes I agree that mayor Coleman does appear to be realizing that something needs to be done and I agree this blog has indeed had an effect, it has recieved great attention that is where I feel we can now take the attention and do more with it.

As I stated it is just an idea I had and thought that maybe if we implemented the start of it maybe someone in an official department would step forward and realize what we have been trying to say all along is correct, and at the same time we would be helping some members of the community.

My bet is after Bob reads this thread you will get what you ask for.

Sitting at our keyboards has not been ineffective in my mind. Those keyboards have served to educate people as to what is going in the city with a lot of the housing problems. I know for a fact that a friend of mine has found out about all the problems with other owners of rental property, and for the last year and a half, he has thought he was all alone and there was something wrong with him. He is now in the process of talking to some attorney is going to be bringing a lawsuit against the city for the acts of their housing code inspectors. Just one lawsuit is not going to change anything, but you have to start somewhere, and that is a start. If enough people get togehter and sue, the city will have to change the way they deal with people or go broke with the staus quo. My guess is that they will change their ways.

Helgen did nothing to stop Dawkins and Kelly from creating vacant homes and he was happy to see 14 Jessamine torn down. He hasn't got a clue.
What St. Paul needs is new and HONEST leadership.

Honest people do not use the taxpayers money to hide behind courts and legal processes because they are too cowardly to have their depositions taken.

Honest people are candid and open about what they have done, what they stand for, and what they believe in, and are willing to stand by that and be judged on their record.

If you want honesty, or leadership for that matter, you're not going to get it from this City Council.

You may however find it in the voting booth this November!

Lee,
It is time to leave the public sector and get a real job. You are so out of touch with what that average St Paul resident wants. You should be working as a prison gaurd at in St Cloud.

Give it up
For the sake of St Paul

Please Lee Helgen, do something anything but run for City Council! We have seen enough of your B/S.

Lee, why don't you take some pointers from Pat H or Debbie M and start getting a clue. You talk out of both sides of your head. You say anything to get a vote.
Throw in the towel, St Paul begs you.

Take a hint from Jay B, You and your style must leave-- It is not working!

The City Council, will be judged on their conduct and record.
Honesty comes from within us.
Most of the people that have a over desire or motivation to progress ones position in life.
Their 'ambition', It is their heart's desire to achieve something.
Their Big ambition is wealth, either in Money or Real-estate.
Condemn a hone, and some one makes money.
Either in the restoring company, or building a new hone in it's place.
Put the DFL union workers to work,
that makes every one happy.
Except the one that lost the home or property.

All my thanks to the people who still care for one another.

This is a "ass-kicking" Blob.

Little Boy Helgen just does not have a clue. Have you ever watched Lee at a council meeting? Little Boy Helgen shows he is really in his own little world by the statements he makes. Little Boy Helgen is unable to grasp the most basic of issues. Little Boy Helgen has been on the council for three years now and he is still holding onto the apron strings of Big Momma Lantry.

Keep running us down.....we will be vindicated at the voting booth.

Oh by the way, here's a free tip from an uneducated moron:

"in-mature" is spelled "imature" in its correct form of the english language. No "hyphon" needed thank you just the same.

You guys are about as in tune to your local politics as you are the happenings in politics over in the Ukraine.
All incumbents will be re-elected except the open seat in the 4th Ward with all 3 running being a liberal if not more liberal than Jay was. Lee's opponent David is a good DFLer. Everybody else wins without coming close to losing. The only other two being challenged in Bostrom and Montgomery who are being challenged by Progressive Minnesota challengers (very liberal with no understanding for the small business owner).

Nothing will change unless, its get tougher for you.

11:40, I have to agree with you!

I have been shaking my head for over a month wondering when someone other than a Democrat would step up to the plate and represent the people of Saint Paul..

Now don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Democrats in general. However, in this City the one party rule is causing trouble for us citizens.

Isn't there any LIBERTARIANS, INDEPENDANTS, OR REPUBLICANS WHO WILL RUN. SHEEP, that is what this City is made up of with in the opposition to Democrats.

Mr Helgen's beliefs are that if you tear down a home the problem goes away. Yet he looks the other way when statistics in his area actually show that crime has risen and he speaks out to say the area has improved.

Wouldn't it make more sense to treat the offender with the help they need and leave the housing alone, in the long run it would be a big savings when you figure the costs of treating a person compared to the costs that are encountered with not treating the offender such as; court time (Judge, prosecuter, court reporters and etc...), public defender for criminal court, public defender for family court, jail time housing, foster care, Child protection worker and the list goes on...

Then from there you look at the future of the children that will be at high risk by not properly addressing their parents issues. Children need a stable home environment for a successful future, and ti live with their biological parents, and that can be accomplished through treatment and programs that are directed at dealing with the actual problem.

Yet the Mr. Helgen still seems to believe that if you tear a home down the problem has been corrected without even taking the real issue into consideration or addressing the problem which is the behavior of the individual person or persons.

This last post reminds me of something happend a month or two ago. I was at a meeting where some guy showed up and started handing out fliers that were calling attention to some city wrong doings and directing them to a internet site somewhere. When poeple showed an interest in it, Helgen wanted the guy to leave and accused him of "spreading mis-information."

Well look who calling the kettle black! Helgen does talk about how things are getting better in the North end area when in fact they are not. It looks to me as if it is Mr Helgen who is really the one speading the mis-information.

To 6:16

What else would you expect from a St Paul Politician other than misinforamtion? That's what they're all about. Why do you think they are refusing to have their depositions taken in the landlords lawsuits? I'll tell you why.....because they know they will not be able to lie like they always do!

6:42 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

My guess is that they would lie even under oath, that is were things could get better. I would love to see Helgen and Magner get caught lying under oath along with the rest of the group that has been using their powers in a corrupt manner. I don't think they realize how much evidence and how many witnesses they are about to be faced with.

The City Council helps me cheat my landlord and get free rent because whenever I can't pay, I just call my councilman (depending on what ward I am living in at the time) and the councilman will send code enforcement right out to my apartment and write me up a nice little list of all the normal petty violations that all apartments have, and then I can get a legal aid Attorney (for free of course) to take the matter into court where I always get a trial and have the judge order the landlord to give me some of my money rent back because of the "habitability statutes" in the state law.

Ya all say what you want about the city council, but I am going to vote for them to keep my free rent coming in.

Bill Dahn

1. Do you have a job?
2. Have you kept a job for more than four years in the last 20 years?
3. How will your self-admitted mental problems affect your work and decision making on the council?
4. Do you know how much the city operating budget is?
5. With a 9.9% set cap on taxes, with the current bugdet, what are your funding priorities and what will be cut?
6. Are you able to hold office?

Most of us work jobs for years we hate so that we can provide for our family.
How can you represent us when you've spent most of your time on the government dole?
What do you know about trying to raise a family in this city today?

You really want to run for office, you have to answer those questions. You want to play and get some attention, then keep doing what you're doing.
