? Mobsters at City Hall or Just Hired Guns for Rich Developers

I was asked to post this for someone-

MOBSTERS AT CITY HALL.....
OR JUST HIRED GUNS WORKING FOR THE RICH DEVELOPERS

READ ON AND YOU BE THE JUDGE

I have become hooked on your blog, and after reading all the posts regarding the corruption and federal lawsuits, I decided to go to the City Council website and watch some of the past City Council meetings.

I think it is very interesting how not only the public hearings for property owners seem to be predetermined, but also how arrogant, callous and cold hearted these City Council people seem to be in taking some ones house or having a house demolished. People are there practically begging for their life and when the citizen is done, a lot of the time the City Council doesn't even acknowledge what the person has said or even that someone said anything, they just vote to deny the appeal, and 9 times out of 10 the vote is unanimous with no one even asking a question!

In many cases they vote to demolish the property in 5 days "WITH NO OPTION OF REPAIRING IT". Even when it is pointed out to them that the house is in foreclosure, they vote to destroy it, along with the ONLY equity the lender has for the money he has advanced for the mortgage on the property!

How long are mortgage companies going to continue to lend money on St. Paul properties in a city with these kinds of policies and attitudes?

It is no wonder the city has a budget problem, they are demolishing the tax base like there is no tomorrow, and in many cases replacing it with TIF projects that pay no tax! All of this in a city where a whopping ONE HALF of the taxable real estate market value is TAX EXEMPT due to government, religious, and non profit, etc. real estate!

In other cases, Council members are heard making remarks to the tune of "this property needs to be repaired and brought to its TRUE VALUE so the taxpayers can realize the property tax on it.

This is really unbelievable, and seeing how they do this, (and sometimes the glee they seem to have doing it) makes me not only believe what the landlords say in the lawsuits, I wholeheartedly believe that the city of St. Paul not only IS out to make money on these actions, but has made money on their actions.......A LOT OF MONEY!

In the cases where the property owners shows up for the hearing, these hearings are nothing but a sham made up to look like something fair and honest. They are a badly disguised joke! The City Council acts as the court, and the City Council members are the jury, along with their own staff member acting as the prosecutor (or maybe the presenter of facts) in hearings that are so phony they couldn't even fool a school kid.

For the property owners that do not show up, I can see why they don't. Why waste your time in a kangaroo court.

I think it would be interesting for you or your bloggers here to look at these meetings and report back on what they think of these "sham hearings."

Go to the website for the "City of St. Paul".........click on "Council"......then click on "minutes"......from there you will see a link to look at the City Council meetings (or archives of past meetings if you wish).......click on the "video" and sit back with your popcorn.....you are in for one of the biggest insults to your intelligence and sense of decency you will ever experience.

And they, the inspectors, have also laughed at all the misery they have caused such people!! And when put on the "hot seat", they squirm in the chairs and turn red and either laugh with embarrasment or wish they were not in the room. This may seem an enigma, but it is in context and spoken literally.

Doubtful, I have a great idea for you if you are really that doubtful. The city counsel members get together quite often to put on these shows/meetings, you could go sit in on a live version on the wonderful city at work. Frequent meetings are necessary in order to condemn and demolish homes at the high rate of speed the city has taken on. I would be willing to bet if you care about another human at all you will have a tough time sitting there with out speaking up(not that they will listen to anyones opinion thats not in their favor). If nothing else you will lose that feeling of security and privacy in your home that one is intitled to in America, according to the constitution. You never know it could be your house the city has better ideas for next.
Goodluck to all St.Paul homeowners.

My sister and I had a joke about an inspector (wasn't st. paul but that's beside the point). He was short, shorter than us. All we thought was "Oh no, he's gonna try and make up for his shortcomings by nitpicking every little thing." He didn't find life very enjoyable, it seemed anyway. Maybe that is DOUBTLFUL'S problem.

Misery loves company and he thinks people here are that way by nature not by the powers that be.

Hey doubtful, I'm sure everyone here is miserable on this site only. I'm thinking they are all very strong, beautiful people with an abundance of life to live and plenty of more beautiful people in their life that support them.

You must be missing something in your life or else you are a patsy for the city. Which one?

Quite frankly, I have grown to think of this site as a very important part of my day. I have had bad experiences with St. Paul inspectors and because of those experiences, I know that what the landlords say in the lawusits are true. While I don't have the money to sue the city, I find great joy in reading the articles here. They help validate my feelings as to what I already know, but feel a bit insecure because I wonder if other people will feel the same or just think there is something worng with me.

Idiot, Quack, Nut Job. Is this how you people win an arguement.

Still don't have a link to a specific incident. I think you would just like people to take your word for it, because your facts are shaky at best.

I asked a reasonable question and I get a juvenile response. Have you people been drinking this early in the day?

Who would go to so much trouble to defend the city's council meetings? I haven't a clue except that the person signed as Doubtful is very relentless and must long to be stalwart like his opposition.

By the way 10:01 poster, it's what the city does best; kick your civil rights out from under you and then make you feel insignificant and that there are no consequences to what they do. You should call the Watchdog Newspaper and tell them your story.

Okay I just watched I'd say about 10 minutes via my fastforward slide button out of 100's of hours of meetings. I saw them go ahead and condemn a man's house that was condemned 6 years ago. They did it because the tenant called up complaining and this tenant had extra family members over, there was also a water heater not properly vented - they all voted for the full code compliance, then were able to laugh together over some stupid quip by a member.

How these people sleep at night is beyond me!

Watch the Council meeting from last Wednesday. They vote to tear down 3 or 4 houses in a row. I wonder how they would like it if someone were to tear down their house and throw em on the street?

They have college students in attendance at these meetings which I'm sure is required of the civic classes they take. The members always remark "Oh, are you still with us ha ha you get extra credit" They act as though their meetings are so dry and boring and bully to you for staying with us for so long today. How could a panel deciding the livlihood and who gets a roof over their head and who gets finacially kicked in the head, as being boring and of no interest to anybody. They are deceiving everyone that they are doing good for people and the city.

Hi All,

I have some good news for "DOUBTFUL" and everybody else. I believe we have found away to link videos here at the blog.

I have witnessed some disturbing City Counsel meetings and like I say we are working on making these videos readily accessible from ADEMOCRACY's TOWN HALL MEETING.

If "Doubtful" has the gumption to come back, he or she may want to go by the name "Beaver Believer" because he sure has chucked a lot of wood here.

I suspect "Doubtful" already has seen the videos, since we haven't heard back from this person.
