This is the wording of a flier that was distributed on the east side by a very unhappy citizen.

I will let him know we are discussing this subject here. Maybe he will join us.

...and there is another one out there saying how the Port shouldn't have bothered to buy the 3M site because no one will want to put a business there because the neighborhood is so bad.

This is very sad.

I think the solution is aggressive police action. I am surprised the author did not ask for that. The author seems to think the solution is to crack down on housing providers (but he doesn't seem to what those buildings vacant either). Guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

Meanwhile this area is "dangerous."

Do us a favor and shut the hell up.

This woman is over the top but, the police have been stretched almost to the point of ineffectiveness. Take your ass out of your comfortable burb and go to the Eastern District HQ and look at the number of calls and arrests to that area, then follow through and see how many DIFFERENT names there are. Call the community prosecutor and and talk to him.

As fast as they are removed, more thugs move in.

You seem to have a lot of answers, what was your connection to the city again and why did you leave?

It's the thugs in City Hall that are the problem.

The bone heads are trying to get positives with negatives, which is a lot like trying to make gold out of lead.

They gotta get the lead out and start acting human!

If the police have been stretched to the point of ineffectiveness, that;s not the landlords fault Eric and he shouldn;t be made to be the scapegoat by city leaders who are really to blame for the mess.

Funny, when I go to the ATM machine at night, I'm not looking over my shoulder for Kathy Lantry or Dave Thune.
I'm pretty sure the person who broke into my wife's van wasn't a city council member.
I'm also willing to bet all of my donuts that none of the council members are selling crank and rocks.

If the police have been stretched to the point of ineffectiveness, that;s not the landlords fault Eric and he shouldn;t be made to be the scapegoat by city leaders who are really to blame for the mess.

Who said the point of ineffectiveness? I gave the set up that they are stretched to the point that most of the time its reactionary. Not having enough cops makes it hard to get in front of the problem and do little things like maintain a presence when you're racing from one scene to the next.

The landlords get the credit for having the knack for owning property that tenant after tenant feels its OK to violate the law and ignore the basic maintenance of their property.

No, but their policies are helping to create an ocean of vacant buildings, the kind of place that actual thugs DO hang out.

Look - it may seem satisfying to blame all us mere proles for "your" city's problems, but it's really not going to do a lot of good.

As soon as he gets elected they should get rid of affirmative action huh Eric.Becuase if a black muslim can get elected now a days it proves the fact that whites aren't racist in majority.I'd actually bet threres more racist blacks than whites.

I forgot what kind of bigoted idiot you were. You're so wrong on so much its wonder that you know how to critically think anything through.

First,
Barack Obama is a Christian and have never been a follower of Islam. But, if he was, so what. Your people just kicked the crap out of Obama for his crazy preacher problem (who has said less crazy stuff than Palin's witch-hunting, anti-American Pastor).

Second,
Affirmative Action was not set up to get a black president. Even conservative blacks that have preached high government levels like Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell and Condi Rice all support affirmative action because it has worked to open the doors for qualified women and minorities.

Third,
A recent poll shows that 40% of whites have negative ideas about blacks. 40%! Since some of those people are probably in positions to hire, approve loans, and admit into colleges, some form of government oversight mechanism is still needed. Hence the need for Affirmative Action.

Eric how many blacks dislike whites?Wheres that stat.I bet much higher.And me my friend you must not know me because I'd rather give a job to a well groomed black person who isprofessional then a white guy.Maybe whites have a 40% negative view due to the fact of the welfare programs,news,gangs and gangster rap.All th well to do blacks you stated I applaud!Its about time and we need more in American positions.

First
Affirmative Action is not in place to make people like each other. Its in place to offer a fair shot where discrimination may negate that. Black businesses have to practice under the guidelines when people apply for positions- in other words we have to be damn sure that our process for hiring was open and all qualified applicants have a fair shot.

Second,
You can't legislate people to like each other. You can only legislate that all have an equal opportunity to attain whatever it is they are shooting for (school admission, housing, employment), its not a guarantee to an outcome.

Third,
All blacks are not into gangster rap, more whites buy it than blacks. Gangs come in all colors and have a history in this country of being part of the 'new citizen' culture. The most deadly violent gangs are the Russian and Albanians gangs across the country. They supply guns and drugs to what you'd call street gangs. In the old days it was the Italians, Irish and Jews who ruled the streets. SOS.

I've put enough facts, links and graphs up to defeat your welfare argument but, all or most blacks are not on welfare. More white take from welfare than blacks. Is that 700 billion dollar welfare bailout going to any blacks? Nope.

Fourth,
I'm a 'well-groomed', educated, experienced, professional black man, and if I was to find myself in a position that I had to get another job, I wouldn't work for you.

Fifth,
I'm glad you like each of those people I named because they all received some kind of racial preference and went on to do pretty well. Barack Obama included.

Affirmative Action may need some mending but, it doesn't need to be ended. We could use a lot more Thomas', Rice, Powell, Obama and others who were given an opportunity perform/produce and excelled.
