Hi All,

I have one thing to say and I will let all of you fill in the blanks.

Concerning City Councilman Dave Thunes comments to a well respected local business man

"Fuck You, You Little Prick!"

Hi Dave, :-)

Question for you. WHY, do you post at Saint Paul Issues and Forums? Dave, you are one of us. No rules here will stop you from showing your true character. And besides it can be real therapeutic.

I saw this on the news. I was shocked that a city official would send an email like this to a constituient as a response to something the guy didn't like.

The "businessman" in question is a Saint Paul bar owner who spent a ton of dough trying to keep Thune out of office (over the smoking ban) and then has the balls to send Dave an email saying that Dave was a commie for standing up for people's first ammendment rights and that Thune should resign.

Thune just responded honestly to him.

So, then the little prick sends the emails to all of the news stations and the Mayor and Lantry.

Then the little bitch cries on the phone to Lantry that Dave was being mean to him.

You know if he wasn't such a little bitch I'd call him a name.

Actually, Thune was great to work for and we were able to get a lot of things done.

Yes, yes, yes for those who don't know I was Thune's campaign manager in 1989 and worked for him at City Hall from 1/1/90 until 12/31/97. More than 10 years ago.

I still have great respect for him.

I appreciate his pollitical courage. Nobody who was looking to win public office would be standng up for the rights of people to protest in this town over the last few weeks.

But, Dave Thune has more balls than brains and he takes those risks.

He authored the gay rights ordinance in Saint Paul when EVERYONE that had any political sense knew it would cost him his council seat.

He authored the Wild/Civic Center deal in the council pissing off all of the lefties. Because it was a good deal.

He got rid of most of the blue laws on liquor sales in Saint Paul when no one else would (remember when you couldn't buy liquor in Saint Paul on Labor Day, Memorial Day, New Years Day, Thanksgiving...) yup that was Thune that passed that.

...and of course the smoking ban. After all of those years of standing up for the bar owners at every hearing... the one full time cigarrette smoker offers the smoking ban. You know how much money those guys spent to keep his ass out of office?

Pure balls.

I think Thune is off the hook. I don't care how much an elected official dislikes one of their contituents, they should never be allowed to get away with sending something like that from a city computer, building, or office. Thune is out of pocket. If he wanted to cuss the guy out, he should have done it to the guys face and on his own time--not the tax payers. I have to say that the local democrats in St. Paul are a scary group of people. I am a registerd democrat but I am voting for republicans in all local elections (other than the senate and presidential elections).

RECALL THUNE

Chuck,

Defend your friend Dave Thune all you want, the facts are the same, Thune misused his office during the RNC convention by protecting the criminal group RNC Welcoming Committee.

The time has come to RECALL THUNE.

He has pulled this stuff for the last time.

You may see in the near future bumper stickers with the RECALL THUNE logo.

Dave Thune provided direct, material assistance to the domestic terrorists that came to SP with the expressed purpose of trashing it. Costello has it just right.

Dave Thune did everything he could to insult the convention delegates, and then to top it off, he made sure that the people HE KNEW were here to riot had every opportunity to do so.

So the delegates left every day after their business was done...and they took their business with them.

Costello and every other businessman in Saint Paul despises Bucky for very good reason...he's done everything he can to ruin them.

I'd be happy to call Dave a fat, stinking pile of shit right here, right now, but I prefer to wait and do it when I'm right up in his ugly, buck toothed grill.

Oh, and Chucky?

You had better take Thune's balls out of your mouth once in awhile, or they're gonna lose their flavor.

Yah and I remember your great election to the school board Swiftie...

Here's the deal folks on this list you all talk about the problems of the loss of civil liberties and what Thune did was to stand up for people who have the right to protest and the right to be arrested as a part of that protest.

Swiftie, not one thing was found in that hall on Smith Avenue and not one arrest was made.

Do you know what Fletcher used as his reason for the bust? CODE VIOLATIONS!!! Hello folks. Exactly the shit you complain about here.

Total BS. When they get in there its school marm city. They got nothing. They released everyone.

That was what had Thune ticked.

Dave had tried to get the protesters and the cops talking to each other for more than a year. It isn't his fault that idiots like Fletcher and Swiftie think that some punk with a hammer is the same thing as a terrorist.

Its a punk that should be arrested but it sure as hell is no reason to stamp on the civil liberties of every other person in Saint Paul.

I can't help it that you're a chicken shit Swiftie that is afraid of your own shaddow. If you think that these punks are big time terrorist, I'll ask Bob to stop by and tuck you in at night.

They are going crazy with these two punks that had gas in a bottle. Something that anyone over 16 years old could put together in their garage. Tom what if Bob would have come to your house and arrest you for having a gun and the "intent to riot?"

You jack off, if this was going against your friends you'd want Fletcher's head on a platter.

NEWS FLASH:

Last night I posted this on the Pioneer Press TOPIX comment section under several RNC articles. I went back today and the Pioneer Press removed all of them. Also not a mention of City Hall Scoop either.

Bob, you do a very good service here by not removing posts when you feel they do not support a person you like. Now only if the Pioneer Press felt the same.

Here is what I posted last night.

Pioneer Press TOPIX post:

A profanity laced email from a St. Paul city councilman is leading to calls for his resignation.

St. Paul businessman, Mike Costello said he got upset last week when he saw City Councilman David Thune protesting at the Republican National Convention.

"I sent him an email saying how disgusted I was and that I thought he was a disgrace to the city and I asked him for his resignation. I said you should resign," said Costello.

Thune responded with an email that said "[expletive] you little [expletive]".

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS obtained a copy of the profanity-filled email which shows it was sent from Thune's official city council email address.

When asked if that was a respectful way to deal with a citizen of St. Paul Thune said, "It is a respectful way to deal with someone of the low class that he is."

"It was vulgar. It was crude and it was sent from his city desk," said Costello.
Thune told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he stands behind his four-letter words, even though he said he never really meant to sent the email.

"I was shocked. I can't believe he sent it," said Costello.

City officials said there is little that can be done to punish and elected official such as Thune for using city property to verbally attack a citizen.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS asked Mayor Coleman's office what he thinks of the situation. They issued no comment.

Costello said he has filed a formal complaint with the city.

How sad your life must be.

There was no arrests made at the building on Smith Avenue you dolt.

It was when Harrington informed Thune that No Arrests had been made and nothing was taken out of Smith that he went after this.

These people had a first amendment right to protest and to assemble. And if they were going to be somewhere they weren't suppose to be they have the right to be arrested humanely.

What a sad scared little, little man you are Tom.

Star Tribune

Salty official e-mail offends St. Paul man
Last update: September 11, 2008 - 11:47 PM

Some might call it a tempest in a shot glass.

A scurrilous reply by a St. Paul City Council member to a critic's ornery e-mail last week has generated a bit of a buzz.

To be sure, bar owner Mike Costello and Council Member Dave Thune have traded insults before.

It reached a new level last week, said Costello, who was incensed to receive an e-mail with the f-bomb in it from Thune's city account.

The message Costello sent: "after what i saw in st paul tonight, with your non violent protestors, you need to resign, you are a disgrace to the city of st paul."

To which Thune replied: "[expletive] you you little p." Yeah, just "p."

The council member said Thursday he probably shouldn't have sent the profane e-mail, but he wasn't apologetic. "I sometimes type these things and delete; this one I didn't," he said. "He yanked my chain, and I responded to him.

"C'mon, the guy's a big boy, he runs a bar for goodness sakes. He's heard it before."

That's no excuse for bad words from City Hall, said Costello. "It's a disgrace to the city," he said. "I've gotten a lot of calls of support."

Don't be surprised if he mounts a campaign for Thune's ouster.

Thune's no stranger to colorful phrasing. Last April he said he wanted to spare downtown residents the sight of "puking Republican lobbyists" in the streets during the Republican National Convention.

Said Thune: "I don't mince words."

I am sorry but Swiftee, like Costello and Swiftee's other friendly bar owner, lacks any honor or decency at all.

These guys work hard to keep Thune out of office and turn around and beg for favors from Thune and then again turn on him.

What I can't believe is that Thune keeps being decent to these guys who take these kinds of cheep shots on him.

Costello was just down at City Hall crying and whining that the City should let him stay open until 4 AM and not charge him anything to be able to disrupt his neighbors. He was screaming about how terrible Thune was to be concerned about the people that actually live in Saint Paul and would have to put up with bars being open until 4 AM.

So, Thune relents and the City allows these guys to get the 4 AM hours at a cheaper rate and sure as shit, Costello comes right back after Thune.

You got to love how these people have absolutely no honor at all and that they repay every effort at reconciliation with another personal attack.

So, for Costello to cry that Thune is being mean to him by using the F bomb is a joke.

I mean its like Swiftee making up the terrorist under his bed. Sad.

Hi All,

As most of you know I deleted this topic. I thought about it and decided to re post it along with my opinion.

I deleted the topic because I was upset I was losing Bill Cullen's participation here due to offensive language. Bill is intelligent and brings substance to discussions here. We lost Eric not long ago and when I lose posters like these guys I feel I lost gold.

I must also confess I have folks who are reading the blog who have the ability to help me make my dream for this site come true and I was concerned they would feel as Bill does and not want to help me with building A Democracy.

On this thread I deleted many anonymous comments that were very vulgar and served no purpose in a productive dialog. I can not monitor this blog 24/7.

I generally do not delete vulgar post if the poster has a known identity. I feel the comments of "identifiable posters" who use their identity are assuming responsibility for the things they say and it does not reflect negatively upon the blog.

Vulgar language- What is offensive to one person is entertainment or a pressure release valve to another. Also to me, it is completely HUMAN to occasionally blurt out that OH SHIT or whatever when feeling anxiety. I feel Dave Thune with his NORMAL human nature set the tone of this topic.

If you find a topic to be offensive don't participate in the subject. Read something here that interest you, but, by all means do not run away from the good fight!

Chuck, you are my hero! You have done more to bring folks together here than any other poster. I highly respect you for standing your ground under the most adverse circumstances.

Swiftee got it right and he stated it as it should have been stated.

Hello Friends -

I'll just say this with respect to Councilman Dave Thune.

I respect him for having the courage to stand up to the status-quo and support the rights of American's just like Swiftee, Chuck and everyone else in AMERICA to say whatever the hell they want to.

Thing is, Dave, Chuck and Bill Cullen, Bob and even Tom Swift all have something in common that I respect very much...they say what they mean and mean what they say.

After covering the RNC, I can say myself with complete conviction that I believe some of our Civil Liberties are in peril.

I don't say this from a political standpoint, but from an American standpoint.

I saw firsthand the intimidation tactics and suppression of the media. The few angry teenage Anarchist were dealt with. Sometimes by Police, sometimes by American citizens who did NOT want their serious and solemn exercise of RIGHTS co-opted by punks.

What is at stake here transcends even the deepest partisan divides and speaks directly to your FREEDOM as an American.

It wasn't about Anarchists and Criminals or some old Hippies. I interviewed a Demonstrator who served his country for 28 years, 2 tours in Nam...who probably said it best for many of us....

"This is about more than just us, it's about our Children and their Children and its about actually participating in the freedoms guaranteed to us in our Constitution."

If Dave Thune and those I mentioned were absent from this conversation/debate in America it would be a darker place. I am certain of that. And still somehow we must get above the division to see what must concern us all.

About Dave Thune.

Is Mr. Thune a hero? Clearly not to some, but to me he represents at least one voice in the vast collection of ten second sound bite oriented Politicians/City Officials that is willing to stand up for something he believes in.

He's a human being. He reacted in an email to someone who clearly is his enemy and who clearly has made it his purpose to get him FIRED.

Its easy for us to sit here in hindsight and say we'd have been better in our wording etc., but I think each of us has said something or reacted in a poor way and wished later we hadn't, even to our enemies.

I wonder if we can at least agree on that much.

Out with Thune, we need new government before this city falls apart.
