I don't think St Paul is going to stand for another round of double digit tax increases. Perhaps the city council could just hide the whole matter until after the elections.

The equasion in St. Paul has always been teamwork.

The city has lost its spirit. With its current dipshit approach, the wrong people are alienated. Expect things to go down the sewer fast.

The sad thing about it is they, the DFL does not see anything wrong with taxing and justify it as if we don't do this we will have to close libraries etc...

The next thing they will do is blaming the Republicans who do not hold the house or senate at the state or federal level. On the city level, both the executive branch, mayor Coleman and the legislative branch, the city council is all DFL.

Somehow this whole mess is blamed on our Governor. The city leadership takes NO responsibility.

I have been looking at the SPIF website and they sure are beating up on a particular member. It seems the DFL can not take responsibility for the progressive tax policy. I think this member calls them the "Progressive Tax People."

I'm afraid it is curtains for you Repke. Taxes going up and that means not as much money for your projects. Landlords cleaning out the city treasury and that means even less money for you. Fcae it Repke, you're washed up, FINSISHED, you'll be flippin burgers at the food court downtown prety soon. The you can see how normal people make a living. Sia-nata Repke.....the gigs up....no more foolin the taxpayers with your fancy non profit schemes that don't sell when they're finished. WHy don't you admit it and just throw in the towel Repke?

Repke cannot face the fact that the city has serious political problems.

Basically, it's this:

The powers that be want to change the status quo, or the way things have always operated. A lot of people like the status quo as it is.

The only proper and acceptable way to change things is to spell out reasons for change, and use logic, facts, and persuasion to convince the majority of people that this change is needed and beneficial.

Instead, they are improperly trying to change things, and have run into a wall of opposition.

Not only that, but they use lies, deceit, and illegal tactics to pursue their agenda, all the while using their arrogance to provide the apprearance of crorectness.

OK kiddies, lets at least read the first 3 paragraphs of the story...

Consider it the shock absorber for your property tax bill. Then think about it disappearing.

A state program that is meant to keep homeowner bills from rising too fast is gradually going away.

The limited market value program will be gone by 2010 unless the Legislature reverses an earlier decision to end it. For years, it has effectively created a split between the actual value of a home and its taxable value.

..... It's the state of Minnesota taking away limited market value!!! Nothing about the DFL trying to raise taxes! This is a program that the DFL started years ago to keep taxes in the cities from going up as land values went up. Every DFL elected offical I know of in Saint Paul would support keeping the program...

man some people...

Chuckles the Clown has spoken.

Chuck, the DFL has NEVER missed an opportunity to raise taxes in one form or another in the last 40 years they have been in power at the state level.

Chuck lets take a look at only a small portion of the DFL’s proposed tax increases this last legislative session. Chuck, you’d think that a $2.16 billion budget surplus would be enough for the DFL. You’d think that a 9.3% spending increase for this budget cycle would be enough. It isn’t even close to being enough for the DFL’s leading spendaholics. Chuck here is only a few highlights from our local representatives with House File numbers, enjoy:

Rep. Michael Paymar (D-St. Paul) wants to pile enormous tax increases on beverages containing alcohol. He would raise taxes on metric sales beverages by the following percentages: distilled spirits (up 228%); wine (up 450%); hard cider (up 800%); regular beer (up 790%); and 3.2% beer (up 457%). (H.F. 1050) It would collect over $110 million in new taxes.

Rep. Diane Loeffler (D-Minneapolis) wants to eliminate in-state tuition advantages for Minnesota citizens at MnSCU colleges and universities. (House File 1032)

Rep. Erin Murphy (D-St. Paul) wants to fine firms and employees $100 if they do not let a customer use the firms’ non-public restroom if the customer has any “medical condition that requires immediate access to a toilet facility.” This has been called the “irritable bowel syndrome bill,” but it could apply to more common conditions of urgency. (House File 1015)

Rep. Phyllis Kahn (D-Minneapolis) wants to apply the sales tax to services involving cosmetic surgery “which does not meaningfully promote the proper function of the body or prevent or treat illness or disease.” This includes, but is not limited to: 1) cosmetic surgery; 2) hair transplants; 3) cosmetic injections; 4) cosmetic soft tissue fillers; 5) dermabrasion and chemical peel; 6) laser hair removal; 7) laser skin resurfacing; 8) laser treatment of leg veins; 9) sclerotherapy; and 10) cosmetic dentistry. (House File 1027)

Rep. Erin Murphy (D-St. Paul) wants to collect more taxes on local deeds and mortgage documents in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties. (H.F. 1042)

Rep. Joe Mullery (D-Minneapolis) wants to put a 10% tax on people who give gifts. If the donor does not pay the tax, then the tax liability shifts to the person who received the gift. In such cases, the donor would still be liable for a $100 penalty for not paying the gift tax. Under the bill, you could be required to show the gift to the Commissioner of Revenue to determine its true worth. (H.F. 1212)

Rep. Debra Hilstrom (D-Brooklyn Center) wants to raise a tax on cell phones, land-line phones, and other telecommunications devices by 46%. (H.F. 1464)

Rep. Paul Thissen (D-Minneapolis) wants to authorize “robo-cameras” to send tickets to owners of vehicles, who will be presumed to be the guilty drivers unless they can prove otherwise. (House File 1058)

Rep. Brita Sailer (D-Park Rapids) wants to raise fees on video and electronic equipment sales. (H.F. 854)

Rep. Joe Atkins (D-Inver Grove Heights) wants to impose an extra $250 fee on cigarette manufacturers. (H.F. 1737)

Rep. Erin Murphy (D-St. Paul) wants to raise pharmacy fees automatically on an annual basis. (H.F. 1722)

Rep. Melissa Hortman (D-Brooklyn Park) wants to impose an extra sales tax to pay for transit and other purposes. In the Metro area, there would be one tax increase. In the rest of the state, the new tax could be proposed by any two or more county boards. (H.F. 1463)

Rep. Rick Hansen (D-South St. Paul) would impose an extra sales tax to raise at least $500 million a year pay for new parks, trails, and habitat projects. (H.F. 1449)

Rep. Shelley Madore (D-Apple Valley) wants to impose an extra sales tax on the three million people in the metro area to pay for more buses and trolleys. (H.F. 1112)

Death and Taxes:

Rep. Tom Anzelc (D-International Falls) wants to authorize a new tax on dead people in his area to pay for the Lakeview Cemetery Association. (H.F. 213).

Rep. Bernie Lieder (D-Crookston) wants to triple a tax on hearses. (H.F. 946)

Cy Thao who caucuses with the Democrats & that he’s got the chutzpah to say “When you guys win, you get to keep your money. When we win, we take your money.” With that type of attitude, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Democrats think that they have first claim on your salary?

Thank God Minnesotans put Democrats in charge last November. If not for their ‘leadership’, MOBsters wouldn’t have nearly the material to write about that we currently ‘enjoy’. In that limited sense, MOBsters should consider the DFL majority as a gift from Heaven.

I didn't say he was a friend Repke, don't start your twisted shit again. He said he knew who you were and thought you had done a lot of good in the city. He took offense at my characterization of you which was laced with a few profanities. It doesn't change the fact that your all washed up here Repke. Why don't you admit it? Cause you can't, cause you know it's true. Your going to have to become a private landlord Repke, and you will feasting off the misery of the poor instead of the taxpayer. Time to move out Repke....build yourself a raft and set float down in the river, it'll take you right to New Oeleans where there will be lots of your kind of developing going on yet. Your done hear.....you hear me Repke......finsihed, the curtains are closing on your non profit crap. The only thing left for you to do is set sail for the south.

I see the city has misssed an opportunity. They only write 125,000 parking tickets per year. They could up that to 1,000,000 and also require code compliance on cars.

5:39 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That’s it, you have just struck the mother lode of ideas for new tax revenue. Car inspection after receiving a parking ticket.

Why, just look at the safety angle of it. Look what the DFL would be doing for the city of St. Paul. Why we all would be safer out there. I can see the posters now, the St. Paul DFL is doing this for your own protection. There would be no more crashes, the sun would shine all day and night and the DFL would have more money they would know what to do with.

The DFL slogan would be, "Getting the junkers off the street before they hurt you. Protecting one city at a time."

I am surprised Steve Manger did not think of this. I can see it now, Manger Auto. Heck there is about a half dozen auto dealerships on University Avenue for sale. Why Manger could be known as the new Car Hop guy on University Avenue, where deals are a mile a minute. Why Manger could even start a used auto supply business with all of the cars this would take off the streets. Why, Manger could be the next Denny Hecker of autos in St. Paul.

Jay Bennanav could be the author of this before the city council. Here is a guy that never met a tax he did not like. Jay has lived off taxpayers for a long time and has gotten rich doing it. So Jay, should we talk about the sham you had going about workers insurance? Jay had the sole right to selling workers insurance for the whole state of Minnesota. This is one rich DFLer who made tons of money off the backs of working individuals like you and I all the while saying he was out for the little man. He was out for the little man all right, right into his pocket.

12:01/12:09 I just do what the folks on the East Side want me to do. I work for a board of East Side residents and business owners, I only do what they tell me to do. That is the entire point of the District Councils and Community Development Corporations. They are nonprofit entities formed to serve the interests of those who are willing to serve on their boards.

So, the projects I am involved in right now are trying to improve White Bear Avenue, (bring in new businesses, improve business facades and create off street parking where needed) the Phalen Village Neighborhood (get them a grocery store and finish the housing project) and trying to assist a East Side program that does meals on wheels and youth service work expand on the East Side.

So, going up White Bear, businesses that we have assisted include, Metro East Chiro., The Cherry Pit, Big Steer Meats, Snyders, Affordable Furnature, The Smile Center, Hazel Park Heights, Phalen Park Barbers, The Animal Hospital and The Sherwood Lounge. That is what the folks who live and work over here want me to do.

As to the new condos on White Bear and Maryland, NENDC is a one third partner in the project with two private companies being the major financial interest. So, it is primarily a private project.

The wrecking ball;

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
Ill never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...strangers hand
In a...desperate land

The good ship St. Paul is going down like the Titanic.

They ought to find out what taxes they can legally levy, and change the city's name to Pottersville (remember the movie 'Its a Wonderful Life').

This is a typical progressive DFL response when presented with the facts they do not want to hear. You all duck the facts and try and change the subject.

What is all of this hug business you talk about?

I get lots of hugs for fighting the progressives like you.

It seems you are the one who is in need of a hug. I will send Dave Thune or Jay Bennanav over. You all can hug and discuss how to spend the people’s money.

It seems you angry progressive DFLers are in need of some love because you are always so ANGRY all of the time. Look at Lee Helgen. That is one ANGRY dude.
