My response:
I would also like to see the rental criteria landlords should use. From my
time in St. Paul, I remember this being a hot issue. I remember St. Paul
city officials commonly saying things like: "landlords get what they
deserve because they don't screen enough." This was most commonly said by
Lantry, Bostrum and Mayor Coleman. I would like one of these city officials
(or an authorized spokesperson) to post something official here. Please
tell us landlords what rental criteria we should use. I think the criteria
should meet these two specifics:
1) It should be the minimum criteria you believe will keep problem
tenants out.
2) You should also no longer hold landlords accountable for tenant
behavior if the landlord uses AT LEAST the criteria you specify.
If one of the elected officials I mentioned above is willing to put their
commonly issued directives in writing, I will pay them $500.00 (1). My
offer is serious. For years I have been told that screening is the solution
to our industry problems, yet I have never seen anything concrete proposed.
I am now offering $500 to the first elected city official that puts in
writing what they have advocated for years.
Regards, Bill Cullen.

(1) If it is considered illegal or unethical for me to pay a sitting
official, I will contribute the money to a charity or political organization
of their choice.

Cullen's money is safe. This chickenshit City Council will never do what he proposes because all they are capable of is one liners and sound bytes. They know they are wrong and they know they are just scapegpating the landlords cause they either don't have the answers or don't want to take the heat for implementing them.
I'll donate some viagra when these crooked oficials are sitting in jail. It can't come soon enough to suit me!
These Bozo's can't answer your questions Bill.
This is beyond their capacity of thought. It wouldn't fit with their criteria of smashing civil rights to meet their objectives to rid the City of as much affordable housing as possible.
The key word here is affordable, and what the city considers affordable is not a place to live for people making less than $20,000.00 a year, its people making $40,000 to $60,000 that the city of St Paul Caters to. If you make less than that they treat you like an eyesore and want to chase you out of town.
For someone who likes to put e-Democracy down, you sure create a lot of links to their discussions. I thought this was going to be a place that would improve upon e-Democracy ... not promote it.
