Ban the bars and liquors - no that didn't work in the past and we'd have to re-open the caves. Ban the guns - no wait that is our constitutional right- and as far as I know, it still is. Lock up the criminals - no they plea bargain and get off with light sentences. Charge the law-abiding business owner and landlord with the crime. It's easy, presents to the public that something is being done, it's immediate and will make everyone feel better. Encourage snitching so that all family members are now sitting ducks too. What a plan! What a hoax! Okay, I'm waiting for the man with the plan who's going to come in and save us all! When they get their guy who shot the gun at Divas, let's see how long it will take for him to be back on the streets. Does anyone really think that this world will get any safer? St. Paul will never be crime-free and will be crime-ridden in a short time. There is no plan to deal with it. All you can do is protect yourselves with common sense, buy a gun, don't go out after dark and lock up your valuables. Just watch out calling the police if you do need them though or it will go on your record as a disturbance - no matter what the case.

Ask Nancy Osterman about being a snitch. She says no to them and they write up so many orders that she cannot comply, who the hell could. Then the inspector wants to steal her house and she says no, so the city tears the place down for her, an now the city is safe because they have rid themselves of Nancy Osterman....but wait....where is this Diva's bar? Right down the street from where Nancy Osterman was trying to raise a family? Hmmm

I've seen nothing," Dawkins said. "I'm just totally in the dark."

WOW! Remember Dawkins picture on the front cover of the Watchdog some months ago. He's a Vampire sucking the life blood out of the Cities landlords. I thought Vampires were always in the dark.

I'm willing to bet that DIVA's has black people for customers, and that is what the city is trying to get rid of is the black people. You would think they would at least try to be a little more subtle about it, but then why should they? The balck people in this city are so used to being kicked around they never say anything anyways, so there's no risk. Just treat em any old way you want to, they'll put up with it.

I think there's probably more truth to the story on the bar owners side than the city's side. I wonder if the bar owner knows who she has for an Attorney? How can a guy that did the things that Dakwins did to people when he was head of NHPI now come forward and defend this bar? This should be interesting story.

Aren't these landlords and business owners that are affected by these behavior problems real victims too?Who is there to protect them?Didn't I just read a story of a rec center aide molesting a 15 year old that had went to the city owned rec center.Shouldn't that be closed---oh wait city owned and funded.Shouldn't the city be held responsible as other business people of this city are?

You can have this city!!!!!!!!

Leave it to Sharon! Sometimes her posts are hard to read, but if there's some dirt on someone, Sharon is your girl.....she knows right where to go to find it. She doesn't put the "sugar coating" on it either. Way to go Sharon!

What they want Divas bar to do is the same thing they want the landlord to do. The city expects you to have a crystal ball to tell you who will make trouble and who won't. From there on out it is very simple, you just don't admit the ones who will make trouble. And then if the ones not admitted happen to be black people as the city contends they are by the incinuation that the bar is catering to the wrong customers, and they are black people, then you will get sued for discrimination by the city's human Rights department. Then you can go broke for a legitimate reason, you will have given all your money to an Attorney to defend you.

If Diva's would just do criminal backround checks on their costomers they wouldn't be in this mess.St.Paul belongs to Germany in the 1940's.

I can see the future now: You will be given a micro chip implant and you will be able to buy booze, food and rent an apartment. The city will put all your information in these chips and you can be rated on what you deserve by your record. They will scan you and know everything about you. If you deserve food and a roof you will survive and if you don't........

Diva's should do what you have to do to buy a gun. They call in a check on you to the police. If the police cannot OK you immediately, then the customer would hav to wait at Diva's till they called back or 3 business days, not including weekends. If they don't call back in 3 days, then the customer can have a drink.

On the serious side, as long as St. Paul is so concerned about public saftey, perhaps they could do what they tryand make the landlords do. Diva's could call the police after getting an identification from the customer, and then the police would tell Diva's wether or not they want Diva's to serve that customer. The ability to do this is already in place, because they use it with the landlords. So charge Diva's a little extra money on their license to cover the cost of the police checks and that should make the city happy! No more wild patrons drinking in bars. Problem solved.

Okay, there was at least one shooting and several robberies from patrons at a Walmart store over the highly conveted Sony Play Station 3. So who is to blame? Sony, Walmart, local police, the criminal, the media, the gun store? Some were robbed outside the store as they waited for their prey.

To John B......there is no bringing Lee Helgen down to reality. He's an idiot! Just plain stupid, and when you are stupid, you are stupid for life....it's not fixable like if you are jsut naieve. Someone who is naieve can still learn, but not Helgen, he's just plain stupid as a rock. You wanna see how stupid? Go watch the video of the City COuncil meeting where they are discussing the high rate of Mortgage Forclosures and all the vacant buildings in the city. Helgen says they have to add more regulation to keep things from getting this way. He hasn't got a clue that one of the big reasons we have all these vacant buildings all over is because of the city's over regulation. Or maybe I should say criminal regulation. You see, he's stupid. The bad thing is that he doesn't know it. He thinks he's better than everyone else. Just watch him at the meetings.

How did such an arrogant looking jerk who isn't even from here wind up representing a mostly blue collar neighborhood? Just take a look at this guy and tell me what he could possibly have in common with anyone who lives in this neighborhood?

Does anyone know the credentials of Lee Helgen? What did he do before being a member of the city council?

I thought I read in the paper that he owned a bar somewhere around Como and Dale. It shouldn't be hard to find out, liquor licenses are public information and anyone can call LIEP and find out if he owns a license and where it is. Other than that, his only credentials are that he is a dumbell. He's another one of these people who have made a life out of sucking non profit and government work.

If crime happens at a landlords house and a landlord is responsible and when crime happens at a business the owner is responsible then who's responsible when crime happens on a public or city owned property? The city right?Lets start holding the city responsible for their problems. If the city can't prosecute properly and put people away thats not anyones propblem but theirs!

10:24 AM

10:21 well we should find out what bar it is and send all Diva's troubled customers there when they are closed.Maybe then he can get a taste of his own medicine.
What a DICK.

Hi All,

REPRINTED

This has been a hot topic at http://www.ademocracy.blogspot.com/ for a number
of days now. It seems a lot of people are coming around to the realization that
punishing innocent people for others crimes isn't a good idea.Makes people real
angry at the City! They pass these experiences on from generation to
generation, and the City is made to look like a bunch of crooks.

First the City demonizes the business as if they share in the responsibility of
the crimes these people commit. Then they sit back like they are some kind of
Hero for doing something to keep the neighborhood safe.May win some votes
from a uneducated public.

Here is an interesting concept "Individual Responsibility"! Arrest, prosecute
and convict the perps and public safety will be addressed without victimizing
innocent people.

Beat up on businesses to gain votes started about 30 years ago, with the porn
book shops. Then it was the Head Shops. Then it was Massage Parlours. Then it
was Gun Shops. Then it was the Corner Convenience Store. Then it was the
Landlords. We can't forget about the Bars. Do any of you really think a bar
owner wants trouble in his bar? NO, they don't!

Here is the kind of Bar Lee could go after and win votes. "GUNSLINGER LOUIES
BAR" Gang Bangers Welcome! Don't forget to bring your gun. The bigger the
better. We play your latest player hater Jams And after every song we have a
bar brawl. And dig this, for every drug dealer and muggers protection we do not
have lighting in our parking lot no security system and girl bouncers. So all
you unsavory types now have a place to go.So come on in and have some fun!

We really need to replace anyone on the City Counsel who doesn't believe in
individual responsibility.top

Maybe we can instill some of that belief in the council at the next election!

I have talked to Lee Helgen 2 different times, and both times he gave off a sense of insinerity and arrogance. Perhaps he could learn something from Mayor Coleman about feigning interest.

This problem is very easily solved by moving out of the city! That is exactly what I did 3 years ago, and for the very same reasons that have been stated here over and over again. I no longer spend my money in St. Paul or pay taxes there.

This whole thread got me thinking. If a tenant, and/or their guest deals drugs in your property and you must evict them and then they are out selling 2 weeks later in a car, who is responsible! The car dealership? Maybe this car was leased. So then do you condemn the car? Is it the finance company? After all they are financing the car used to distribute. Is it the city because it's their roads? If it's manufactured or grown locally, depending on what they're selling, then is it the discount store or pharmacy who is to blame? (you could also include Xcel and St. Paul water for providing electric and water as it functions in helping manufacture the drugs.) What about Banenav who brought in his little affair that turned violent right inside city property! That was a pretty disgusting result from a sexual behavior problem. If you twist things enough, you make the problem into anything which then proves the city and police have no idea how to stop crime and it is their responsible to do so and are covering it up so that all the citizens feel better that something is being done and it doesn't even matter what that is!
They are gutless, clueless and lazy and are using citizens to do their work.

12:30 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not only are they using citizens to do their work, they are using the citizens to break the law that the city cannot break. The landlord cannot evict the tenant for calling the police for domestics. The tenants DO have that stautory right, it's the law. They cannot be evicted for it, but the city does an end run around the tenants constitutional rights and has the landlord do the dirty work.

Same thing with drugs....most of the time there isn't even a conviction for drugs and no court in the land would throw the tenant out when the landlord cannot prove there are drugs being sold, but in comes the city through the back door, and once again they do an end run around the constitutional rights of the tenant and revoke the lanldords rental registration to get rid of the tenant. It works well for the city. The tenants don't even know that their rights are being violated because it is done is such a subtle way.

The city of St.Paul is getting the type of people they asked for and deserve. Reality is, if you were to look at the records of the offenders that are incarcerated and check to see where they are from you will see that over 50% are from Chicago, and many from Gary, Indiana. There is a reason that Minn. attracts many of the lower class, undereducated class. If you compare the welfare benefits here compared to other cities you will find it as one attraction, then Mn. tends to have more lenient sentencing practices along with believe it or not police and jails that treat the offenders nice compared to other cities. So if your a criminal Mn. is a great place to commit crimes, everyone around the actual criminal gets more punishment then the actual offender. Just don't forget to shovel that snow or mow your lawn cause Mn will lock you up for serious crimes of that type.....Mn welfare programs need to focus more on vocational and educational rather than the handouts we are known for, without change there will be no change just conditions that worsen over time.

Chicogo has the 3 strikes law and after they get caught for the second felony offense the probation officers tell them to head for Minnesota because the next time they get caught in Illinois, they are going to spend the rest of their life in prison. This has to be the "promise land" for a lot fo these guys....they come here and get into trouble and someone else gets punished for it. Makes me wonder why I work for my money!

8:46 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That is exactly the type of thing I was referring to..Also the treatment the offenders recieve in Mn. is suppose to be much better...So why not come here to commit your crimes and let someone else get punished for your acts..
