Subject: [SPIF] Is Sheriff Fletcher or Commissioner Campion in charge?

Short answer: Fletcher is, and always has been, in charge. Commissioner Clouseau is useless.

In order to beat Fletcher at the polls, though, you're going to need a candidate, Grace, and one who can win isn't going to be the sort of person you're going to like. You prepared to hold your nose and work for, say, Finney? Be careful who you pick, Grace -- you might end up with Manila "Bud" Shaver, who keeps breaking his nose every time Fletcher's ass stops too suddenly.

But you're understating the problem, Grace. It would be convenient if the real problem was just one incompetent Commissioner of Public Safety and one power-hungry sheriff, and not much less convenient if you added on to that ten or twelve bad cops on the MGSF.

But the problem is much larger, and, at this point, we don't know how large it really is.

And you're part of the problem, Grace -- when the legal rights of people who you don't like politically are abused, where are you? What have you done about, say, Fletcher denying carry permits to folks who objectively qualify? Yeah, I know: you don't want none of those wingnut rednecks to have guns, anyway, so it's fine to just sit on your hands. But that encourages precisely that same "We are cops and so we're above the law" attitude that you denounce (properly) when the harm done is some nineteen-year-old pacifist girl being used as a pepper spray dummy at the RNC.

Hey, it's not my problem; I don't live in Ramsey County under the thumb of the RCSO. I'm in Hennepin, and Minneapolis, and as bad as the MPD is, we've got much better sheriff watching over stuff.

If you folks in RamseyCo don't get off your ass and address your problems, you're going to continue to be the Chicago of the north.

Starting with Fletcher Delenda Est isn't a bad idea, though. You got a candidate?

Over the last week or so I have been attempting to remain neutral on issues. This subject hits close to my interest.

Folks our city and Minneapolis stinks with corruption and it isn't going to get better until we get rid of some key players on political fronts.

As for a Sheriff or Director of Public Safety, I'd appoint or elect whistleblowers from with in the departments. These are people who have shown integrity in the face of wrong doing.

A good commander for any future gang strike task force would be the Minneapolis Police Sargent who complained of the wrong doing within the force. But no, like so many other city employees from Saint Paul and Minneapolis who whistleblow they are transferred away from the units they are having trouble with.

Kessler of DSI is lacking integrity. Code Enforcement officer Gerry Boyd has shown she has integrity. Gerry should be in charge of DSI.

Bob, just a thought on your thought process about who would be best to be in charge of a department. Your kind of thinking is actually what leads to most problems.

Sheriff Fletcher put someone in charge of the gang strike force that he knew was a "good cop." Ryan had a great career with Saint Paul PD and had never had any scandal associated with his name. He had also never been in charge of an agency. It was never his job to make sure that there was someone storing evidence, it was never his job to develop a system to dispose of property, it was never his job to have an agency audited.... and you see where we ended up.

....so your solution? Give it to someone else that has never been responsible for those kinds of details.

Assuming for the minute that Ryan still is a good cop and he was unaware of what happened around him, he had said that the problem was that he had almost no administrative help. Nobody to develop the rules and regs for his new agency to follow. No one that did the detail work. And his problem in this was that he didn't know that if the I's aren't dotted and the T's aren't crossed it was his job to not send the troops out to do cop work until he could keep them accountable.

If someone has never run an agency and have no administrative experience it is almost a given that it will end in disaster.

So, put one of the clerical staff in charge of a multi-million dollar agency... that would work.

The truth be told, there is bureaucracy running these departments. There is citizens who hold jobs within local government who over many years have had a number of elected or appointed leadership come and go. These are the people who keep the wheels of bureaucracy turning.

There is citizens who hold these long term jobs within local government sick and tired of some of the political shenanigans they are expected to participate in or remain silent about. I don't care who you are, if you live your life by the law and earn an honest living you expect others to do so also. And that especially applies to those who we elect or appoint to enforce our security.

When the blame game of dirty politics has ended and our rights of due process of law restored, we will be off to a good start of restoring integrity in local government.

Someone with integrity like Gerry Boyd would have support from within the system.

I must say there has been a lot in local main stream media lately depicting what appears to be a good image for local politicians. We will see where all of this goes.

Eva Ng Calls Out Chris Coleman & MN GOP Introduces "Chicken Chris"
Endorsed Republican candidate for St. Paul mayor, Eva Ng criticized
opponent Mayor Chris Coleman for campaigning outside of St. Paul.
His mayoral campaign finance report shows hotels, flights and
restaurant bills
all outside St. Paul.

From the Pioneer Press:

St. Paul mayoral challenger Eva Ng on Tuesday criticized Mayor Chris
Coleman for traveling outside of St. Paul and charging his
re-election fund.

The Coleman campaign called Ng's move a "stunt" and said some of the
trips could fall under official business, so charging his campaign
saved taxpayers money.

Ng, who is endorsed by the Republican Party, made no allegation that
Coleman broke any rules or laws, but the criticism underscores her
charge that Coleman is running for re-election only as a springboard
for a 2010 bid for governor. Coleman, a Democrat, has said he is
seriously considering such a run.

Yep Yep Yep!

Ng has also invited Coleman to debate, which he has repeatedly refused
Coleman's refusal to meet Ng in debates prompted the Republican Party of Minnesota to introduce "Chicken Chris" who will join Coleman at all
events to encourage him to stop dodging debates.
