A Minneapolis police sergeant is alleging that he was removed from the Metro Gang Strike Force in early 2008 after he advised his superiors of policy and procedural concerns within the Strike Force.

Sgt. Kelly O'Rourke filed a whistleblower lawsuit today against the city of Minneapolis. O'Rourke, a highly decorated officer, said he was removed a few weeks after he went up the chain of command within the Strike Force and his police department to inform them of many of the allegations that have since been raised by state officials investigating the unit.

In recent months a state probe led to the disbanding of the Strike Force, and now the FBI is probing possible criminal activity within the unit, including theft of seized evidence.

O'Rourke denied a recent media report that he used an ice auger seized by Strike Force officers and then returned it to its owner. His attorney, Patrick Burns, said that somebody within the police department leaked O'Rourke's name to WCCO-TV.

O'Rourke has not been interviewed by officials conducting the state probe or by the FBI, Burn said. He is now a member of the Minneapolis police Violent Offender Task Force and was credited several years ago with taking down one of Minneapolis' most notorious gangs, the Rolling 30s Bloods.

O'Rouke joined the Strike Force in August 2007, and by the end of 2007 he was expressing his concerns to supervisors at the Strike Force as well as a captain in the Minneapolis Police. Shortly thereafter, he was reassigned from the Strike Force, Burns said.

Bill, Bill, Bill...

First all of you guys hate the cops and then when the press say this guy is a whistle blower you decide he must be.

Read the story.

He says he went up the chain of command and then got transfered out of the strike force. He didn't go to the press and blow the whistle.

As a whistle blower law suit, it doesn't have a lot of legs because what is he suing for? He didn't get to keep a position with a group that he didn't think were doing their job well. He didn't lose and rank or status, they just gave him his job back. And where is the whistle that he blew? He still hasn't talked to anyone... not the FBI or the media.

And he files this suit after the FBI says he was one of the guys using other people's property.

You guys are funny...
