April 1, 2009 – Today the mayor announced the start of Project Minus 5000, a city program aimed at doing something about all the empty houses in St. Paul.
He explained it this way. A former mayor of ours had the brilliant idea to create 5000 housing units in St. Paul that would then be sold to people who couldn’t afford them. We know how well that worked out. That mayor has skipped town, the whole world’s economy has collapsed due to bad mortgages, and St. Paul is left with empty houses on every block. It is the goal of Project Minus 5000 to do something about this problem by eliminating 5000 housing units by the year 2011.
The facts are these: Homeowners living near an abandoned house will be given the option to purchase it for the cost of demolition and property clean up. Low interest loans will be made available for these purchases. No property taxes will be assessed for a period of five years if the lot is left undeveloped but is instead transformed into a vegetable or flower garden or planted with trees or a low maintenance ground cover. If there are no buyers for an empty house, the property will be given to the St. Paul Port Authority which will immediately bulldoze it and allow the lot to fill with weeds.
Contact the mayor’s office or your city council representative for more information on Project Minus 5000.

It might be an April Fools Day article, but I bet there were DSI / city council dipshits looking at the reactions so they can determine how much they can get away with.
This has been in the works back in
the 90's. the city council has been planing this foe years.
make the lots bigger so, the people
from suburs would move to the city. And get more taxes money from the homeowners. You need less people to live in the city. But pay more the services. than u needo increase the taxes later.
How about some help fightin property taxes re: Dist. Crt. File 62cv-09-1163 http://sharon4privateattorneygeneral.blogspot.com
Speaking of property taxes, mine went down 15% in Scott County. While st.Pauls have went up 28% this last year.Who has a spending problem Chuck? Its amazing that BIG BAD TIM hasn't hurt my town.Message to all that live in St.Paul get out there are better places to live.
Why do people live in the city anyways?
Brian
They live in the city so they can be close to services paid for by other people, they like the diversity of crime and irresponsibility, They like Policians that lie to them and tell them all is well, and most of all they like guys like Repke that'll build a new Rainbow down on the corner so they don't have to go as far to get groceries.
