Vacant Building List Climbing to an all Time High

Please click onto the title of this post to see the Registered Vacant Building list in St. Paul.

I find it disturbing that so many of these properties are rental housing.

I am reading a City Counsel Research Report titled "Mortgage Foreclosure & Vacant Building Trends. I will be providing a link to the report soon.

Most if not all of those homes had someone living there that the neighbors did not like, or the people were breaking laws that the police refuse to enforce, so they send in the housing guys to write up every little nit picky violation they can find, and then they lie and throw in a few violations that are serious enough to condemn the place also. That way they get to move the people out, declare it a vacant building, and then require a $50,000.00 "code compliance" on the building.

Maybe you property rights people a right. This report sums up the fact that the city aggressively attacked the private landlord.I wonder how meny of the properties on the list are St.Paul owned?

I've been on the fence on this issue but I'm starting to believe all the information you guys come up with.

This is my first time writing on this site.Great information Bob.

If the city has their way, they will own them all shortly, and then give them away to their rich developer buddies along with a bunch of TIF money to boot!

8:58 pm: I have a questions for you. Why have you been on the fence? Did it take proof or was it other things that made you think differently? Was it that you didn't want to think these things about the city you live in? Do you personally know or have admiration for any of the city officials involved?

I think we need to be educated or at the very least informed as to why some people just won't believe things that the city does. So if you could answer the above and any thing else that would help us understand why people won't believe what's going on, that would be help Bob also.

The jurors who will be given every shred of evidence, proof, documentation, pictures, letters, memos, etc will not be from st.paul, if I'm understanding confict of interest correctly. So the loyalty to the city won't factor in here.

How does St. Paul compare to New Orleans in condemned or vacant?

St. Paul is trying hard to catch up to New Orleans

I'm waiting for the last of my properties to "close sale" and when it does I'm gonna sue the city also. I've lived through almost every single thing I have read from you guys about this issue, and in the beginning I was scared to say anything because I thought it was my fault. I sure know better know. Thanks Bob. You have sure enlightened me.

So join the club in feeling humiliated and embarrased because you, and the building you supply as housing, were made to take the heat for criminals and neighbors who want your tenants out and the problem solved by the city at your expense but which will only surface down the road the next day.

Call the RACKETEERING Attorneys if you have been hurt this way by the city of St. Paul. They're smart, expierienced, tough and efficient and have a full investigative staff. I'm talking to them now and have been really impressed with them compared to the regular Attorneys I have known in the past.

If a person cannot trust the government to be honest and fair 100% of the time, how can we have any trust at all in anything that they do or say? I'm with the landlords on this one I'm afraid.

I see there are a few more next to or near 14 Jessamine that were added in '04 and '06. I wonder what their stories are. Are these the same neighbors who complained about Nancy. It makes you wonder what kind of "plan" they have for the "lots". It's almost like they're peppered everywhere so one won't think there's something actually planned.

Maybe they have them spread around to remind people to shut up and mind their own business or we'll tear your house down too.

Darla Jefferson, I hope that the city does not retaliate against you for signing your name. Some may say that's a paranoid statement and maybe it is, but we know that council members and inspectors read what is posted here. We've also seen and have first hand experience that their actions are sometimes rebellious and power-trip driven.

Very few people sign their names here and the ones that do are either activist and now are on a mission or are city supporters. The activists got there because of the way they were illegally treated by the city and have been given no choice in the matter because they've been devoured and spit out by the habitual corrupt customs by which the city incorporates into it's daily agenda. They have nothing more to lose. The city and it's supporters do not like the anonymity given here because they then do not know who to punish. So maybe others will think before posting their name. It is sad that we have to think about this after all we are Americans, but that is what St. Paul has come to! Nothing is equal for all. Infact it is inequitable for the legit, hard-working citizens with homeownership. It is not a democracy - not anymore. It is now a dictatorship and those that belong to it have the power to covet, steal and lie about your possessions. They are like a theif in the night making off with their ill-gotten goods. So when we are ripped off, we are royally ripped off first in taxes, then by the emporer shaking down the town that pay them. I don't mean to scare you, just forewarn you as one would for a hurricane or tsumani.

The really dirty thing about this situation and the current city council is that it is not about money and property, it is about the current leadership stealing the trust of the people. When you can't trust, then all the hopes and dreams for the future go out the window also. After all, what hope for the future can anyone have if they can't even believe in today? Watch the city council meeting today. Take a good hard objective look at these poeple. Listen to them and watch their demenor. Watch the coldness as they refuse to even have a discussion after someone has poured out their soul about unfair or illegal treatment regarding their property. Would you buy a car from anyone of them with the exception of Harris? All they really are is another bunch of con men with a self serving agenda. They don't fool me any longer, I know what they are.

It's not even a matter of trust! I don't expect them to make me feel good! Who trusts any politician, leader or council people from national to local. I don't care if I trust them or not, just don't take liberties with my property or steal from the taxpayers. It IS about stealing and lying and swindeling. It's about corruption. I don't want to trust them because then I would be depending on them for that reliance and most don't deserve it. I don't want to feel good about them because that is what they are hoping for, people to believe and defend them. actually they don't even care about that because they think that whatever abuse in power they take is sanctioned as city business. When has an elected official ever accomplished half of the promises he stated he would? I wouldn't buy anything from them and that is why St. Paul will fall and fall hard! They don't want the citizens to succeed, that is not their plan and when you and your house are on their radar, in their way or bothered by your existence, you will be out because they have all the power and most people either don't care or won't believe it.

When elections come next year, these council pwople will get the same thing Kelly got last November. There are just too many people mad at them to be re-elected again.

I have just finished reading this vacant building report the city council was talking about on September 27, and no where do I see where the city council takes any responsibility at all for their part in the vacant building crisis that we have currently. Yes the market and a lot of other things have a hand in the mix also, but so do the policies of Andy Dawkins housing department. He would not have been there if the city council had not put him there. Dawkins and the city council fully intended to have all these vacant buildings litered all over the city in the hopes of getting rid of a certain class of people, tearing down the properties, and building new so they could collect higher property taxes for the city, and along the way probably give out some sweet deals to their developer friends. What they did not count on was the changing market, interest rates, etc and the ever so troublesome "unintended consequences" of their actions, and now we as taxpayers and home owners are left to deal with the fallout from it. Rather the council talks abot how we need more regulation yet as their response. They talk about how all of us are basicaly supid and need to be educated, that landlords are making a deliberate decision not to repair their buildings (even though values are going right through the roof) that the lenders are predatory, and mortgage brokers are getting into the business just because it is easy money. The City Council's attitude is that it's everyone but them! They have no fault at all, even though they stuck their heads in the sand while many many people were telling them what would happen as a result of Dawkins illegal and discriminatory actions. I have a news flash for you Ms. Lantry.....when the elections come next year, it is you and your gang of idiots that are going to get the education.

Hi All,

All I could think of when I read the report was "the City Counsel must have given a draft to a writer", and the writer artfully put his spin on the facts.

Sure some of this report is accurate. Mix some truth with the lie and whala, a believable story to an uninformed public.

Why wasn't code enforcement tactics given more consideration as a contributing factor?

Sorry state of affairs our local politics is in.

That's just exactly how they do it too. They get the credibility and trust with something that's the truth, and then everything after that is a damn lie. I don't know what is worse, the politicians or the taxpayers that believe them.
