Of course they are. Republican led government, what do you expect?

Why try to bring those worst in the nation test scores up when you can let them exercise their freedoms?

Why try to teach the kids when they can order dumbed down history and math books?

Er, Eric?

Do you get paid by the non-sequitur?

Of course they are. Republican led government, what do you expect?

Responsibility. And Texas delivers.

Why try to bring those worst in the nation test scores up when you can let them exercise their freedoms?

You act like they're mutually exclusive.

Bet the kids at Virginia Tech would have gotten the same grades had one of them been able to kill the mass-murderer. Doncha think?

Why try to teach the kids when they can order dumbed down history and math books?

You sound like you're taking with a mouth full of peas.

(It is non-sequitur day, isnt' it?)

(What? No?)

Test scores and public safety coexist just fine; students in seven states that qualify for carry permits carry just fine, and have had no problems. There is no correlation between carry permits on campus and grades, inverse or not.

I realize being a liberal in a one-party city means never having to learn how to frame a coherent argument, but really, Eric, even you can do better.

I remember back to when the Democrats said the whold world was going to end if we allowed CC in Minnesota. What happened, NOTHING, there was no Wild West, but good citizens being able to carry, as they should instead of the bad guys only being allowed to carry.

Eric you and your fellow Democrats are NUTS.

Yeah, giving college kids guns on campus is a smart move. Obviously I'm corresponding with people who never went away to college.

Listen cowboy, try hiring trained security first. Those kids are so full of booze, testosterone and emotions that giving them guns will only escalate what happens every weekend.

Why is it everytime there is a shooting, republicans want more people armed?

Eric,

Do you know the legal age one can become a police officer in some states? 18.

It has become the mantra of the democrats to say the sky is falling just to control another part of society. Gun control is just such an example.

Take the south, the southern Democrats hooked up with the KKK to keep the black man down. How many blacks were lynched because of the Democrats and their association with the KKK? Do you also believe those blacks who the Democrats worked so hard at suppressing their vote through terror tactics like public lynching by the KKK don't have a right to vote do they Eric? You just can't trust them blacks can you just like you can’t trust a law-abiding citizen the right to carry?

The same is true with average citizens, you just can't trust them with guns because they would overthrow your stinking government run by the Democrats.

As history shown Eric the Republicans worked side by side with the African Community to give them their rights and the Democrats tried to impose their Black Code on them to suppress their vote. Eric you can’t deny history, you may want to rewrite it.

Trusting regular people with guns? Why not, they still have a right to own them. They don't have a right to do what you said with them. Its called treason.

Republicans are in charge of more units than Democrats. And, if we had it your way, Wisconsin's governor would be over thrown, and Madison would be a bloody mess like some banana republic. Its stupid and only sounds good. A bunch of people who never had to pull the trigger, will find it hard to take a life. Its takes training and mental fortitude. We just don't live in some hick society anymore and our military aren't a bunch of farmboys looking for a paycheck.

You hang on to some romantic notion that a group of armed citizens can take over the government, not as long as that government controls the best trained and most technologically advanced military in the history of the world. It's just not going to happen. Peaceful protest, voter participation and eliminating large contributions to campaigns (ie public financing) will keep the government honest.

Next, no other country has more gun owners per-capita than America- not counting the countries where its the law or the ones where everyone must serve.

I see that you believe America is exceptional, until you say its not.

History also doesn't stop happening. That history stopped around 1940. Tell the rest of it.

As everyone already knows, Democrats with the election of FDR began putting out aggressive policies that helped the worked classes. Republicans sunk the economy at the end of the 1920's (sounds familiar?) and sent us into a depression. Blacks, being mostly of the working classes, related to FDR well (though more still voted Republican).

Truman then came along and desegregated the military, began integrating the schools(picking more African American support).

Ike, a republican, enjoyed strong African American support but Congressional Republicans helped ship that away as they found their opposition voice in desegregation.

Kennedy was the very first Democrat to get a majority support of the black vote. 100 years after the start of the civil war. He got it by promising civil rights for everyone and taking on Jim Crow. He didn't live long enough to deliver.

Johnson came along and finished the promise by outlawing and enforcing the law on civil rights, signing the Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, Equal Opportunity, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.

During that same time, Republicans began speaking out against these policies. To be fair, most of these were former Southern Democrats who left the party and found a home in the Republican party. So Johnson had a solid 80% of the black vote. Blacks were actually voting in their interest- gasp.

Nixon ran the southern strategy, which was a way to tap into the white southern vote who were against desegregation and the entire civil rights movement. After he won, he enacted a lot of progressive ideals (EPA, Affirmative Action, Clean Water Act etc) including a national health care program that was voted down thanks to Democrats this time.

Reagan came along in 1980 and kicked off his campaign in Mississippi talking about states rights and in the town that it famous for killing three of the young people who came there in 1962 to help blacks register to vote. Reagan went on to oversee an economy with over 10% unemployment, the highest deficit and raised taxes 11 times. He was successful at wealth transferring, from the working and middle classes up to the wealthy.

I'll stop there, because its just too embarrassing to compare the Bush's to Clinton and Obama when it comes to who supports the interest of the rich, and who supports the interests of most blacks (economically) and working families.

Democrats have turned our public schools into crap affecting Blacks more than any other ethnic group. The Republicans have no answers for this except eliminating public schools. Pipe dream and very dangerous. They've got no answer and the Democrats have the wrong answers.

You keep living in the 100 year past. Republicans have fallen quite short on delivering for all of America. They seem to have a record of leaving the country in worst shape than it was when they took over.

Some of the most raciest people I know are Democrats. Look at Helgen or Thune. Raciest to the core.

The Democratic Party represents the party of self interest.

They care about only lining their pockets.

The unions are an unelected body, but they control the political body in St. Paul and Minneapolis, as no Republicans are elected and the electorate doesn't bother to show up and vote.

Eric and Chuck,

I am concerned with LIBERALS having guns, mostly you and Chuck.

You both have so much hate in your comments, it is concerning. I could see you both going postal when someone doesn't agree with you.

Hate in comments? Is there another definition of hate that we are not aware of because Eric, Chuck and anyone connected with them are the targets of hate in every title post on here. This place is a madhouse. A Carny's House of Mirrors.

I have been following the comments here and I agree both Chuck and Eric have a lot of hate built up. Now if a Republican were to talk that way they would be called "Right Wing."

Both Chuck and Eric would be calling the FBI, CIA and God knows who else to have these guys arrested for their hateful speech, but if they do then it is different.

Both could use a little schooling from Bob Spaulding from Ward 2 mor Russ Stark from Ward 4.

Can we say a double standard.

So telling the truth about your party AND backing up with historical facts is hate speech?
I guess if just found out all of that information on my party it would look like hate speech to me.

You could always tell me where I'm wrong exactly. I've noticed that no one seems to know anything about history except Chuck and myself.

I've got degree that makes my expertise on American History official. What do you have?

I know you are the party who kept the Africans Americans down for over a 100 years. The southern Democrats teamed up with the KKK to keep the African man down.

Dispute that Chuck.

The Democrats advocate for abortion. That is the killing of babies.

The Democrats support union thugs to beat down people that they don't agree with.

or how about Congressman Mike Capuano to 1000 union members at a rally on Beacon Hill, "I'm proud to be here with people who understand that it's more than just sending an email to get you going. Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary."

Here we have a Democrat congressman, Mike Capuano advocating for the union members to cause harm to non-union members.

This is what you call hate speech.

Eric,

Yeah, giving college kids guns on campus is a smart move.

The old "argument by ridicule" strategy.

Doesn't really provide evidence. Which, on this subject, with DFLers, is the norm.

Obviously I'm corresponding with people who never went away to college.

Well, yeah, I did.

And I'm corresponding with someone who "went away" and got one of those cookie-cutter soft-science/social studies "Masters Degrees", who was never forced to learn actual classical logic.

It shows.

Listen cowboy, try hiring trained security first.

Listen, nanny, hiring security and letting law-abiding citizens defend themselves are not mutually exclusive.

Those kids are so full of booze, testosterone and emotions that giving them guns will only escalate what happens every weekend.

You really have no idea what's in the concealed carry law, do you?

I guess that cookie-cutter soft-sciences "masters degree" didn't teach you how to do research, did it?

Why is it everytime there is a shooting, republicans want more people armed?

Because we notice that the places where the law-abiding can defend themselves don't have a many shootings.

Seriously, Eric - do you HAVE an "A" game? Because if this is it, I'd get the money back from the school that gave you that "master's degree".

Stick with tearing down American flags. It's more your speed.

I jusat love comments like this: "Because we notice that the places where the law-abiding can defend themselves don't have a many shootings."

...because it just shows how stupid this crowd is.

Now look at this list:
Louisiana
New Mexico
Maryland
Tennessee
Alabama
Mississippi
Missouri
South Carolina
Michigan
Oklahoma

Those are the ten states with the top murder rates... and guess what all but one of them are "shall issue" concele carry permit states.

Yes, it sure looks like letting everyone pack cuts down the murder rate.

What hog-wash...

Aw, Chuck. You disappoint me.

I expect bad reasoning from our soft-sciences "Masters"-degreed DFLbot Eric.

And truth be told, I don't expect much better from you, either. But having had smarter people than you hand you your head on this argument over and over and over and over for the past couple of decades, you'd think you'd learn not to toss the chest-high ball across the plate, over and over and over and over.

But you never ever do!

So when you write...:

...because it just shows how stupid this crowd is.

...after years of watching you and Eric, you just know you're going to write something stupid.

And you don't disappoint.

Louisiana, Maryland, Tennessee,
Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri,
and South Carolina have endemic crime problems, partly because of the Scots-Irish heritage (with its history of clannishness and "honor" violence) kept alive through hundreds of years of oppression of the "white trash", which caused social policies not at all unrelated to the same pathologies among urban Afro-Americans.

It's a sociological fact observed by smarter people than me, and especially you and Eric.

Oklahoma suffers from some of the same, plus lots of native American poverty. New Mexico has the same, plus issues with narcotraficante violence. Michigan is dragged down by Detroit and its' other Democrat-addled stone-cold urban cesspools, victims of generations of ultra-liberal politics. They make great previews of life in Saint Paul in 30 years.

And the previous poster talked about MASS MURDERS and SPREE KILLINGS.

"guess what all but one of them are "shall issue" concele carry permit states"

And the people doing the killings, statistically, are NOT the holders of carry permits.

Nobody claimed shall issue would solve crime. Merely give the law-abiding citizen a fighting chance.

You hate that, don't you?

2:06 - do you have a reading problem???

In the post above mine they said:

"Because we notice that the places where the law-abiding can defend themselves don't have a many shootings."

It says they don't have as many shootings... which means to anyone who reads it... they don't have as many shootings...

Which is flat out wrong.

Their claim was that having easy cary laws reduced shootings and it doesn't.

I just posted the murder rates.

I made no other claims.

Chuck,

As the guy who POSTED "they don't have as many shootings", I'll tell you I was referring to VTU/UT/Columbine-style mass shootings.

It ONLY meant "they don't have as many shootings" if you wanted to read in the context I left off before.

I was guilty of unclarity the first time. For that you can be forgiven for jumping to the wrong conclusion.

The person you impotently slapped back at, though, did have the proper context; while southern states have social issues not terribly dissimilar from our nation's hideously-dysfunctional urban areas, shall-issue states have both fewer spree-killings (indeed, outside of "gun free zones", they are almost nonexistent), but even in high-violence states like South Carolina, violent crime dropped after the adoption of Shall-Issue; the sort of thug-friendly honor violence that plagues the white-trash south gets deterred just a tad.

Hopefully you've been set straight, Chuck.

Colorado has some of the most liberal "shall issue" laws on the books it didn't help one janitor to take out those two boys that were able to bring an arsenal to school.

Arizona, like Colorado honors your "shall issue" permit that you got in Minnesota. And, in the most recent shooting spree the nearest person with a conceal carry permit had to be stopped before he blew out the brain of the retired Army colonel that was wrestling the killer to the ground... because that was the person he took bead on and was going to kill.

As to the reduction in violent crime... violent crime rates have been going down for the last twenty years in states that do and in states that don't have conceal carry laws... the carry laws have had as much impact on crime as global warming...

Those are just facts.

Really, Chuck? You want to run with that? You think you've scored a big point there? Maybe shown the ignunt Rethuglicon who the smart guy is?

Sorry, Chuck: for starters, Federal law pre-empts legal carry permits in schools.

Or would have, had it been an issue. But, um, Chuck? Smart guy? Colorado didn't pass its shall issue law until 2003 - at least in part in response to Columbine.

Arizona, like Colorado honors your "shall issue" permit that you got in Minnesota. And, in the most recent shooting spree the nearest person with a conceal carry permit had to be stopped

Um, wrong. He checked fire himself. The police themselves commended the man on his response. He did the right thing. Anti-gunners have tried, and failed, to twist the incident into an anti-gun episode.

Chuck, you live in a fantasy world.

As to the reduction in violent crime... violent crime rates have been going down for the last twenty years in states that do and in states that don't have conceal carry laws... the carry laws have had as much impact on crime as global warming...

Statistically untrue.

Those are just facts.

No, Chuck - three out of four of your points were actually absolutely untrue, as in white vs. black. The last is a matter of duelling statistical models. It's a duel I'll win, but there's no real point to it...

...because at the end of the day, all I'll be doing is beating Chuck Repke.

And that's just not that big a spiff for me.
