Hi All,
If you are informed on housing issues in Saint Paul then you are aware Wally Nelson is alleged to be involved in housing corruption scandals involving city official Steve Magner.
Here is a link to a city council meeting greasing the skids to have Wally renovate a doomed house on Sherburne Avenue.

He doesn't own it!!!! It isn't and hasn't been his problem.
Its not like one of your scum bag friends who sucked every dollar out of a building and then is trying to avoid repairing it.
This guy is saying, knock it down if you want to, no skin off of my nose, but if you want the building rehabbed give me two weeks to see if I can put together a deal or blow it up.
So, the council says two weeks, what do we have to lose? We will see the issue in two weeks and if you have a plan we will look at it.
Bob, I will bet you $100 that they would do exactly the same thing for Bill C.
Bill has a track record, if he was interested in fixing something they would be willing to see what he could put together.
It is one thing to be seeing a building for the third time with the same owner asking for another extension than it is to see someone who has done successful projects offering to save a building.

By the way, I am curious if Magner gave the owner of this property a referral to Wally Nelson.
I heard the city council mention security cameras. Is this an amendment to Morris vs Sax? lol
I bet the city council put the owner of this property through a living hell before Wally came along. Ordering one repair after another until he finally submitted to renovating the home to the point it is no longer affordable housing.
That is what the city council likes about Wally. Wally is the type of contractor who will take affordable housing and renovate it out of the realm of affordable housing.
All of which has lead to gentrification of our neighborhoods and displacement of low income citizens.
Nancy Osterman 14 E Jessamine.
City code inspector Magner warned Nancy Osterman to sell her home or she would be looking at a big hole in the ground. Magner offered up a friend of his to buy the house, "Wally Nelson".
Nancy didn't sell, and the home was demolished in spite of property rights advocates exposing all kinds of shenanigans by the city council and code enforcement. The city even got their insider friends of the press to LIE about the condition of the house.

Senior citizen Louis Jacobsen makes similar claims of extortion perpetrated by city employee Magner of housing code inspections.
The FBI is interested in Magner and Wally Nelson's relationship.
It will only be a matter of time til the greed and dirty money catches up with them, it always does.

Go look on the City's permit page on this building. It has been vacant since 2007.
Go look at Ramsey Co. property tax and you will see the bank bought it back on foreclosure in 2008.
So, on your planet, the evil Steve Magner has been conniving since 2007 trying to figure out how to get this building on the corner of Sherburne and Mackubin into the hands of Wally Nelson.
Three freaking years of work for what Bob?

At the Landlord Politics website there is some information not included in the story.
#1. Bill Dahn and his cousin Rick were the first to see Magner and the demolition worker in the alley behind the garage of 14 E. Jessamine. They confronted Magner and the demolition worker.
#2. When councilman Helgen posted a topic "Good News 14 E. Jessamine demolished", his post was in direct response to a post I made at Saint Paul Issues and Forums titled "Bad News 14 E. Jessamine Demolished". All of us can thank city councilman Lee Helgen for the birth of the "A Democracy Town Hall".
So you see good things can come from a bad experience.
Bob its a VACANT building it has been vacant for 3 years. How in the hell does that have anything to do with gentrification?
You do a great job of putting 2 and 2 together and getting pork chops.
I don't even understand how anyone is suppose to follow the logic of you or anyone associated with the landlords group.
Did that Nelson guy look like an "insider" to you who is making millions in these great deals with Magner...?
He is a small contractor that does renovation work. He is an "insider" because he is someone that actually performs when he says he will. If that makes someone an "insider" well...
Just like the scum balls that pimp you out Bob people know what track records people have. It is human nature, not corruption to be more likely to support projects or proposals of people that have successfully performed in the past. It is risk/reward.

Chuck, screw the house! We all know Wally will do a good job.
Chuck, I am attempting to bring some clarification to the readers as to who we are talking about here. Now the readers have a good impression of who Wally is and the kind of people the city council favors.
In the words of code enforcement officer Magner, Wally Nelson is a good friend of his. How good a friend is Wally? Does Wally get leads from Magner on these housing ventures?
What is insane is a city council who panders to political insiders to meet their objectives of gentrifying the city. Gentrification is the adverse effect of their actions.

Not pimps, wise property investors Chuck. It is possible the FBI is checking me out. Me , you and everybody else involved with this issue Chuck. You and your friends in city hall are disparate to do anything to shut us up. I'm sure there has been some extravagant claims. When I met with the board of Saint Paul Issues and forums they told me they thought I was possibly a hit man, they thought maybe I was working for the CIA on and on. What a laugh!
I have no fear of the FBI, I live a good life.
Here is something for you to think about Chuck. Maybe SOME landlords question the timing of my arrival at SPIF.

Well Bob, I have read your blog at length and I am wondering why no one ever talks about how the city not only prevents landlords from repairing their property, but they will actually arrest them if they try and repair the property.
Yup you heard me right!
If you are a landlord in the City of Paul, you cannot repair or replace your own electric, plumbing or furnace.
Those repairs are "reserved" for the city's "Union Buddies,"....maybe better known to you as "Campaign Contributors".......perhaps of the "Building Trades Union" flavor of contributions if you know what I mean.
Maybe this is why the city is so hell bent on making people do these expensive "Code Compliance" things you talk about.
A landlord can do other repairs, but the city's LIEP department will refuse to issue a "Permit" for electric, plumbing or furnace work to a landlord. A person who owns and lives in the home can get a permit top do these repairs, but NOT the landlord.
Don't believe me, call LIEP and tell them you want to get a permit and see hat they tell you. I would do it form a pay phone though because they have caller ID and the first thing they will try to find out is where the property is so they can send an inspector out and try to catch you doing the repairs without a "Permit."
If you want to do something as minor as change a faucet or repair a leaking toilet seal, in the City of Paul, you have to get a permit to do it.
You being a "Handyman." I am sure you can see the "Punitive Expense" directed at the landlord when he wants to change the seal on the toilet which costs $ 1.29, but instead has to call a license plumber to come out and do it for $150.00. The added cost also does not take into account the fact that the landlord in most cases could do it right away, while waiting for a "Union Plumber" may take some time.
If you want to install a GFI outlet so your tenant is safe from electrical shocks, the cost to install that $3.99 part will be around $ 100.00 give or take a few bucks.
So now you may see what some of the incentive could be for these "Code Compliances" they city likes so much. It has more to do with the "Money" than repairing the house or looking out for anyone's safety.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that just anyone and everyone should be out working on electric and plumbing, but if a landlord is willing to get the permit and can do the work to code he should be allowed to do it. After all that is what the permit is for is to have an inspector come out and look at the work to make sure it is done according to code.
Not only is this a huge disincentive for the landlord to do the work without a permit, in some instances it can also increase the safety risk of the residents that the city insists they are out to protect!
It seems ironic that on one hand the city is tearing down houses and condemning them as fast as they can, and on the other hand they not only refuse to let the landlord repair the property, but threaten criminal charges if he does.
Perhaps people like Amanda would like to know exactly why it is that some landlords do not make repairs. I think she may be surprised to know that the city says he CANNOT repair that property....unless maybe he is rich and doesn't care about money.
What do you suppose rents would have to increase to if all the landlords were dumping an extra $500.00 to $1,000.00 a month into their property to hire "Union Workers" to do the same job the owner can do?
At least Chuck Repke had the option to paint his house himself. He must be one of the rich ones cause he hired it out.
Maybe he just didn't know how to paint, and that's OK. I don't know how to fly a plane or run a non profit either, but what if you don't know how to do the work and you don't have enough money to hire the "Union?" Worse yet, what if you can do the work, but don't have the money for the "Union?"
The way I see it, the city has a choice of letting people repair their houses or not allowing those repairs and enduring the slums as the unintended consequences.
Did our city leaders chose "Slums" over "Repairs" cause they want the campaign contributions from "Union Labor?"
Are "Big Slums" being legislated through law by the City Council and their persistent attacks on the rental business?
Are people like Amanda being forced to live in "Raw Sewage" because the "Lantry Gang" is more concerned with the city making money on permits than it is about the safety of tenants?
These are some disturbing facts Bob and I am hoping you can report in them.

I don't know about slum centrals but I do know that the city doesn't give a hoot about the safety issue BS they always use as a catalyst to demolish buildings. Everything they do is a trick and everything they say is a lie.
Nobody is pimping me out.
My conscience drives my activism.
You can't put a price on that!
The biggest donor to my activism is Bill Dahn. Bill donates food, Cinnamon and I give the food away to hungry families in Saint Paul.
Feeding the hungry prevents crime.
