Mr. Fishback is correct, the few are paying for the many. I say lets do away with the DFL slanted system, and let everyone pay their "fair share."

Property taxes are based on the value of property rather than the ability to pay. So, from a classic "GOP" view of fairness, property taxes, taxes everyone the same based on what their property is worth.

DFL'ers look for "progressive" taxes like income taxes where the rates vary based on one's income, so if you make less than $10K you don't pay any taxes and as you make more your rate goes up to higher percentages based on your income.

Chuck,

Did you even bother to READ the article?

Homes values at &70,000.00 or less were taxed differently that $150,000.00

Using the DFL logic as Mr. Fishback pointed out and Fred Melo also stated, there is a disproportional tax level, as everyone is NOT paying their fair share.

The homeowner who has a home less than $70,000.00 pays an unequaled amount than a higher valued house.

The 25% are paying for the 75%. That is not fair, but redistribution of wealth. These 75% didn't take out the school loans, work hard just so they can support those too lazy to make it.

7:27 Did you read the article??? The GOP last year took away the homestead credit and replaced it with this scheme.... it wasn't a DFL slanted system...

The Homestead Credit was a DFL scheme that said if the property was the place that you lived and it wasn't an ivestment then it should be taxed at a lower rate than investment property.

The GOP decided to ditch the homestead credit and lowered the tax rate on cheap investment properties in the inner-city making it easier for Bob's friends to have less expenses on low cost high return investment property.

...DFL slanted scheme my ass...

Chuck Repke,

What you fail to tell the people here that this was passed by both Democrats and Republicans and signed into by a Democrat Governor, Mark Dayton.

Spin, spin, spin, you Democrats are all the same, spin the truth to just fit your needs.

It looks like the Florida situation, Trayvon Martin is also major spin. The truth will come out, but you Democrats want to race bait.

Chuck your name should have been Jessie or Al instead of Chuck.

What I am so upset about the Democrats is people like Chuck spew their crap and when they are WRONG they never retract their misinformation. Their only goal is to further their party at all costs. Chuck supported the STOP 35 group that brought us that 45 MPH practice freeway because it went through their white neighborhood, but Chuck and company were very silent when the Central Corridor went through one of the most minority diverse sections of St. Paul, destroying many businesses.

Chuck and his buddies on the Met Council now want to block the economic impact study on these businesses.

Here is something else just for Chuck:

First that quote is not a quote of Abraham Lincoln's it was first written 50 years after his death..

http://www.snopes.com/quotes/lincoln/prosperity.asp

Second there is a reason why the poorest cities in the country vote for democrats.... if the other side campaigns on starving the poor, cutting education funding, forcing women to carry pregnancies to term and generally hate the poor, they'd be pretty stupid to vote GOP. In most major cities the republicans could all fit in a phone booth.

Chuck,

How DFL of you Chuck!

The DFL wants to penalize someone like me who worked three jobs during college, took out student loans, and worked his tail off to get a degree, WITHOUT any government help or aid.

Now I purchase a home in a fairly good part of town (no drive bys). I use no city services (police or fire calls) and now the county comes in and says that because I have a home that is more valuable than the East Side, we are going to tax you at a higher rate.

What is the incentive to get ahead? All of the rewards are for those who milk the government, because we the hardworking workers pay for it. We the hard working workers busted our tails so some slob can take away our hard-earned money.

That is a broken system, Chuck.

You and the DFL promote a SOCIALIST system and America is getting very tired of it.

Chuck you make fun of the Tea Party folks by calling them teabaggers, but these folks are the workers who are tired of the Socialists like you expecting someone else to pay for others to be LAZY. Small government is the key, as this is the land of the free, not over regulation and micromanagement by government minders.

I am not against helping someone when they are down, but three and four generations of sucking at the government tit is not helping them, but is only enabling them to continue to milk the system.

This system that DFL Governor Dayton signed into law is just a redistribution of wealth to those who are too lazy to buckle down and make the hard choices.

Chuck you really make me sick. You are promoting this socialist agenda when at the same time you use the government to line your pockets with your non-profit and city hall connections all in the disguise of helping the poor.

LOL - I know and you want me to keep the government's hands off of your social security and medicare too....

So, you took your little self to the Government subsidized University and they all are... public and private both and you paid for it using your FEDERAL GOVERNMENT insured student loans.

And you don't like the SOCIALIST SYSTEM that gave you an education.

What a fucking joke.

Chuck,

I went to a PRIVATE college without any government help. I am still paying off the loans that I took out from MY bank, not the government any government backed student loans.

You are the one who is a JOKE Chuck.

The truth hurts doesn't it!

Did you learn any other big words at your publicly funded university?

You do know that people do judge you by the language you use, don't you? Do you use that mouth to eat with? Almost all of the people I have dealt with who use gutter language are of big mouth, but very little substance (see quotes below).

Here are some more quotes for you:

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. -- George Eliot

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.-- Abraham Lincoln

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.-- Mark Twain (1835-1910)

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. -- Bible, 'Proverbs' 17:28.

Please, share with me what "private" college you went to so that I can point out all of the assistance that it got from the Socialist government... least of all the fact that they paid no taxes because the socialistic government allows them to avoid paying taxes and imposes their taxes on the rest of us.

And, please, please, please give me the name of the bank that was willing able and stupid enough to loan you monies for college without making you take out the loan throught the socialist federal government's insured student loan program.

Come on clown, you have been caught in another one of the great lies that you true welfare queens... the well off that get all sorts of tax brakes from the socialst government... always do. You want me to keep the governments hands off your social security, your medicare, your student loan program, your publicly subsidized private institutions, your publicly supported churches, your police protection, your fire service, your parimedics that all majically occur but all that stuff that you don't use are socialistic.

Sorry Chuck, the loans were from a local St. Paul bank with collateral (car) to back them up. Chuck I worked several jobs, went to school full time and took out some loans. I didn't depend on our government for my education. I had Mack and cheese more times than I can remember.

I didn't have medical until I got a real job after college.

I worked hard for what I have only to have your Socialist DFL friends take it away and give it to some slob why can't or better will not put forth the effort. Chuck I was poor, but I never made excused.

I was never entitled to anything just because I was poor, this is something out youth have grown up to expect, handouts. There is no work ethic, but only an entitlement mentality.

Right.... you paid your way through a private institution on the amount of money you could borrow off of your used car... Right...

You either have never been to college and have no idea how much college costs or your lying.

My guess is that you went to a private college that Momsy and Daddy put you through and that if you had to borrow money on the car that they gave you for graduating high school they made you do it to pay for your fraternity ring... one must teach a young gentleman to earn his own way in this world...

One quarter at the University of Minnesota cost 3 times as much as the used car I was driving in 1975... Get real...

I know that few people with college educations read this blog but some crap you just can't get away with.

Mr. Repke,

Are you calling me untruthful?

I told you the truth, I went to a local private college, that is now a university.

I worked at the American Can plant on Prior Ave in St. Paul and I paid my whole way through school.

Midway National Bank was the bank that loaned me money off my car to pay for books.

And no, Mom and Dad didn't give me money, as they couldn't.

Chuck you don't know what you are talking about.

You are so convinced that one has to rely on the government for help, and that my friend is where we disagree, because they don't.

6:32 PM

6:32 PM - I don't even know if you are a real person.... You clearly have no idea of the actual cost of college so I have no choice but to assume that as well as being a coward who doesn't sign his posts you are also a lier.

Cowards cry on this blog that they can't sign their posts because the City will come after them because of their possition on DSI issues, but you are talking about if you have or haven't gotten more assistance from the government than the average welfare case...

My guess is not signing means you have gotten pleanty of government assistance in your life and that's why you don't sign your posts.

Chuck you are just very weird.

Nice try, but I didn't post my name because I don't want to.

No matter what I say you will say I am not telling the truth.

Whatever you say Chuck, as you know all, not!

No, Chuck I never have had any government assistance. I did without, worked my tail off, just so you and you Socialist Liberal DFLers can take my money and give it to some guy who can't get off their ass and work. This is called entitlements, something you DFLers know all about.

Chuck my parents were DFLers, but they saw the light. Dad was a hard core union guy. He worked hard, but he never took food stamps, we did without.

Chuck I can see why people here dislike you so much here. You are very annoying. You really have some major issues to work out. Why don't you have another drink, then maybe you will post something that makes some sense.

Really Chuck, your last post sounds like you are wasted or drunk.

Sorry, I am still waiting to meet that first self made man.

This country was founded on a social contract between us as citizens. There isn't a person out there who has made it on their own.

The government attempting to create fairness in society has been the mainstay of the American Government since our founding.

I laugh about the GOP crying about the "death tax" that only is on millionaires... when the early Federal Government would tax at higher than 50% on inheritances of all kinds.

This country was not formed for the princes. It was an understanding that we were all equally king.
