SHHHH! While we listen to words of wisdom from a wise man.
Conscience is the light of the Soul that burns within the chambers of our psychological heart. It is as real as life is. It raises the voice in protest whenever anything is thought of or done contrary to the righteousness. Conscience is a form of truth that has been transferred through our genetic stock in the form of the knowledge of our own acts and feelings as right or wrong. A virtuous and courageous person can alone use the instrument of conscience. He or she can alone hear the inner voice of the soul clearly. In a wicked person this faculty is absent. The sensitive nature of his / her conscience has been destroyed by sin or corruption. Hence he or she is unable to discriminate right from wrong. Those who are leading organizations, business enterprises, institutions and governments should develop this virtue of the ability to use their own conscience. This wisdom of using the clean conscience will enable them to enjoy the freedom.

A message from Ed Mathews
Bad legislators have caused many problems, but bad and/or activist judges arguably cause just as much or, in some cases, more. Ed is a very intelligent, thoughtful, and hard-working guy that would make the kind of judge that we need a lot more of in our over-governed and over-litigious society.
I totally disagree. Ed has a lot of growing up to do. He is a very self centered individual. I will not support anyone for the position of judge who acts like Ed does.
Once Ed grows up then may be I will vote for him, but not now.
So, he's going to stop activist judges by becoming an activist judge? Everybody is a 'hard working guy', I just want to know who they are working so hard for.
No thanks Ed. Go and get some more experience in the law, since it looks like you've never had a regular outside of that, putting you in a robe so early with only law school experience will guarantee we get a guy who knows best for everyone just because he wears a robe. You've never had to make a payroll, you've never had to earn a paycheck in the same manner 98% of Minnesotans do. So, until you get some life experience that comes from living it past 35, see ya later.
Personally, he's demonstrated himself to be a person with short temper better suited for the legislature (where he lost in Washington County in 2000) or for Congress (which he lost last year) but instead, we get some goofball who had a run in with the law at the RNC, told a couple of homeless guys (who had jobs) at Dorthy Day to get a job and pull themselves up, and think that working class people are not middle class or higher because they don't work as hard. Screw him.
That's what we get from a guy who's been out of college for about 10 years and has only accomplished a divorce. He's too immature and really won't be able to relate to most people that come into his courtroom. Landlords? Forget about it unless you got Jerry Trooien money. Those that put their life savings into a few properties around town and barely can pay for food, he doesn't get it, you should work harder so you don't have to struggle.
Run him against Steve Cohen or Sandy Pappas, keep him the hell away from the courts. They're messed up enough.
Paul in Highland Park (yep a couple of blocks from Ed)
Paul, if that is your name. You don't know Ed, if you did you could not possibly have this opinion of him. So who are you really? I smell a DFL operative.
Dan
Saint Paul
one way to clear it up is to have Dan tell us what is wrong about what Paul said. once we figire that out, then we can figire out who Paul is. Ed is candidate here.
Highland Park is full of DFL operatives, so both of you may be telling the truth. Paul could be an operative, he also could very well live near Ed too.
These are some eye-opening charges. What do you know Dan?
Dan,
What Paul posted is right on. Ed needs to grow up. His personal life is a great indicator of a person. To be a judge, one has to be his or her own person and Ed is just a LITTLE BOY.
Who cares who posted it? There is a local forum called the St. Paul Issues Forum who attacks posters for their views. This is a DFL controlled forum.
Bob's forum lets people tell it like it is. You sound like you want blood for someone expressing his or her views that is different from your own.
Hey Ed, why don't you post this over on St. Paul Issues Forum. You would fit right in there.
Well I have read Ed's message to the people trying to explain his qualifications and why he shouild be on the bench.
I didn't read much if anything about Ed being an associate with any lawfirm. Or as an attorney practicing on his own.
Certainly Ed, you would be joining a bench of vetran Judges already there and you would have to join that ilete group and be a lemming that must learn how tight nipped your fellow judges ( some of them ) are in bed with the city.
Ed you talk about being endorsed by your fellow collegues and other Judges but you fail to mention at all how you are qualified and experienced other than having passed the bar.
Ever worked as a public defender ?
Ever worked as an assistant to the city or county attorney ?
Ever work as a volunteer attorney for the poor or Southern Minnesota Legal Services ?
Wot is your resume Sir ?
Jeff Matiatos
Ok I am amending my comment a bit to say that I see now that Ed was law clerking for a Supreme Court Justice. I think thats a very good thing to have on a resume and that he has did some private practice.
Wonder why all his judicial endorsements are retired ?
BUT, I still think his experience is vague and I am not sure I could vote for anyone who's pitch is that vague.
He could be a nice guy though : )

The idea of a free press in America is one that we hold in the highest regard. We believe in bringing our site visitors the widest possible array of information that comes to our attention. We have great trust and respect for the American people, and our worldwide audience, and believe them to be fully-capable of making their own decisions and discerning their own realities.
Among the thousands of articles posted here for your consideration, there will doubtless be some that you find useless, and possibly offensive, but we believe you will be perceptive enough to realize that even the stories you disagree with have some value in terms of promoting your own further self-definition and insight. Our site is a smorgasbord of material...take what you wish and click or scroll right past that which doesn't interest you.
We suggest you don't make 'assumptions' about our official position on issues that are discussed here. That is not what this site is about. We believe it to be unwise to sweep controversy under the carpet. We also firmly believe people should not only read material which they agree with. The opinions expressed through the thousands of stories here do not necessarily represent those of the host.
We are not going to censor the news and information here. That is for you to do.
We strongly recommend not 'assuming' anything. Read, consider, and make your own informed decisions.
One more time...
The host Bob Johnson does not necessarily adhere to, or endorse, any or all of the links, stories, articles, editorials, or opinions on this site.

Mathews sounds like the guy running against John Klein in the 2nd. There is an interesting article on powers today.
"DFL candidate has sketchy résumé as contractor
Campaign material cites business experience as a plus, but provides scant details."
The same could be said of Ed Mathews.
