That brings me back. I worked in the corrections field from 1974 until 1998. From 80 to 88 I would do exit interviews in Stillwater, Oak Park Heights and Saint Cloud to determine placement for release.

I am sure that it continues to be harder and harder to manage inmates.

A line from a Bob Dylan song always made me aware of who to watch out for..."When you ain't got nothing you've got nothing to lose."

There are a lot of young men who have are in a situation where they have absolutely nothing to lose when they are sitting there.

The Minnesota Correctional system is raising prices in the canteen and not raising the wages of the inmates.
You can't buy anything except through there system and the inmates have to buy their cloths, instant coffee, snacks, shoes, extra pants and whatever they need at inflated prices.
Check and see what state there phone service is provided through, the number to check is
( 713-574-1106 )
They are not providing good medical service for inmate that have Diabetes and they said at a house committee meeting that it cost to much to give the entering inmates HIV TESTING for AIDS.
One of the committee members said it cost to much. When I complained to the Correctional Commission, I was told that they now have drugs to prolong the inmates lives.
Think about that? would you like a five year sentences for a minor crime and come out dying from Aids?
That is the same as a death sentences for a minor crime.
They have inmates with Aids cooking and working in the kitchen, we all know that Aids people should "never" work in the food industry.
That brings back a song line from Bob Dyland, "How Dose It Feel" "To Be One Of Them"?
Now, lets hear from you 11:20 PM
Did you say you worked in the corrections field from 1974 until 1998.
I thought you worked as Dave Thunes Aide in the 90's?

Just raised a few facts.
Would Chuck like to deliberate on these questions, if all inmates are getting efficient medical treatment?
Did you work for Dave Thune in the 1990's?

6:49,

Sorry to hear that you have to buy your own clothes, coffee, shoes and snacks.

I am not in the slammer and I have to buy these things and I am not asking you to pay for it.

Your complaints about the prison system are nothing new, although your claims have merit. Good luck because being in prison doesn't usually get folks to listen to you very well.

Use your prison law library and sue them to compel compliance of their obligation to provide you with safe and sanitary living conditions.

I sure as hell would be up in arms if HIV infected inmates were serving and preparing food.

Does correctional employees eat that crap ?

One of tragedies of our society is the profit being made off of the prisons.
We contract for so many services it appears the state only provides the guards and administration.
Many of these services are/were cheaper when directly delivered but, as is with lots of government contracts, people find a way to bloat it (2.50 for a can of pop).

They get away with it because what politician is going make an issue about this? Especially with all of our other problems that people on outside deal with? I think we should examine the administration and oversight of our prisons, not for the sake of the prisoners but, its our money. Its only sound fiscal practice to have regular audits that are publicized to the electorate.

Sorry mistyped worked in corrections from 74 to 89 (not 98 - 89 backwords) started working for the City in 90.

The access to phones were started to be limitted even back then.

As to medical care there is a constant fight over how much and what kind of medical care is required to give inmates.

With longer and longer sentences we are ending up with many senior citizen inmates who need a great deal of medical care.

The real tragedy is the care for the mentally ill... they far to often are both the perpetrator and victim of much violence in the institution.

...and people with Aids are able to work in kitchens... just don't have sex unprotected sex with them.

Hey Chuck
We are talking about people with
AIDS cutting themselves and bleeding in to the food, you could catchs Aids and die and its not from having unsafe sex.
It seem like all you have on your mind lately is sex, like you said about Bill Clinton, a blow-job aint sex.
Scandals at the White House, scandals in St.paul's Government.

They should of shown the goon squad coming in and kicking some ass!

If they show that then it would be contrary to asking for more and more money from the state budget. Money talks, but inside you have only working for pennies and liking it, or they will put you in lock down.

day one in jails or prison you are not a human from that point on your a ward of the state, so you are at the mercy of the guards or goon squad.

You think there are raciest people on the outs, just think how it is inside the walls.

Chuck would know about some poor medical service cases, he must have heard many stories while working with the correction department.

Like you said about inmates in for life and their Diabetes or Heart is bad, do you just stop giving adequate health care.

Like the peanut king in the news, they ask him to eat some of his own peanut prouduxt and he refused.

What's Good for the Goose is Not Good for the Gander:

Chuck will come back and say, I would eat food if I knew some one with AIDS blood got in it.

Propaganda Fighting in Prisons!
We Need More Money!

Over crowding, look close at why they are asking for More - More and More Money, this is the same film used every time when they have they hand out in the past.
If all state employee are on a pay freeze, are these guards getting a pay kick.
There is a planed to double buck, and that is what really causes violence in prisons.
Most flights start in their own cells, over populating is like if Hmongs have a 2 bedroom apartment and there are 14 people living in it.
Most inmates are there for small drug charges.
The war on "drugs" is using up tax dollars faster then our taxes can afford to pay out.
The 2 cops sentenced by the FBI for stealing money at a drug bust gets a slap on the hand at a Federal Prison, but the common drug addict gets at lest 10 or more years.
These cops know better then someone on the streets, selling to support their habit.
We see that the law works differently for Cops, Lawyers, Judges, Politicians, Governors, Presidents, Mayors, Council persons.
We need to open the eye of the people and just say enough is enough.
We can't afford the government to keep picking our pockets.
The real criminals are in government.
Put them in Jail and keep them for life.
