Senator denies any wrongdoing

A left-leaning group that previously called for an investigation into Sen. Norm Coleman's relationship with a longtime friend and donor said Wednesday that it's pleased the FBI is now asking questions.
Agents with the FBI have talked with or made efforts to talk with people in Texas familiar with the allegations, contained in two lawsuits, that Bloomington financier Nasser Kazeminy tried to steer money to Coleman through his wife's employer, according to a source familiar with the situation, the Pioneer Press reported Wednesday.
Coleman and Kazeminy deny any wrongdoing.
On Wednesday, Denise Cardinal, executive director of the Alliance for a Better Minnesota, said, "We are grateful that the FBI will be looking into the matter."
Last month, the group sent letters to the FBI and Senate Select Committee of Ethics asking that Coleman be investigated for possibly failing to properly report gifts in accordance with Senate disclosure requirements.
Coleman responded by saying he welcomed an investigation.
The lawsuits surround a Houston offshore oil-drilling maintenance company, Deep Marine, controlled by Kazeminy. One of the lawsuits, filed by Deep Marine founder and former CEO Paul McKim, alleges that Kazeminy told chief financial officer B.J. Thomas to orchestrate a bogus contract valued at $100,000 with the Hays Cos. Hays, a Minneapolis insurer, contracted with Coleman's wife, Laurie, who is a licensed insurance broker.
"U.S. senators don't make (expletive deleted)," the lawsuit alleges Kazeminy said to Thomas.
On Wednesday, Thomas' lawyer declined a request for his client to be interviewed by the Pioneer Press.
"We're not a party to the lawsuit," Charlie Parker said. "We had nothing to do with the lawsuit being brought, and I believe that my client is being misquoted (in the lawsuit)."
He declined to comment further.
The second lawsuit, which relies on a "confidential informant" and names McKim as a defendant, alleges a scheme that's similar to the first, but it doesn't include the same details about Kazeminy's alleged conversations.
Federal investigators are looking into allegations that a longtime friend and benefactor tried to steer money to U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, the Pioneer Press has learned.

Houston is where the first of two lawsuits was filed alleging Nasser Kazeminy, a Bloomington financier, tried to steer $100,000 to Coleman via his wife's Minneapolis employer. The second suit, filed in Delaware, alleges Kazeminy initially tried to get money directly to the senator.
Both Coleman and Kazeminy have denied any wrongdoing, and Coleman last month said he welcomes an investigation.
Neither Coleman nor his office has been contacted by the FBI, spokesman LeRoy Coleman said Tuesday morning.
"We have not been contacted by any law enforcement or investigative authority on this matter," he said.
On Tuesday evening, Coleman's campaign released the following statement: "We are not aware of any investigation that is under way, nor have we been contacted by any agency with respect to this matter. As we have said repeatedly, we welcome any investigation of these lawsuits by the appropriate authorities to get to the bottom of these baseless, sleazy and politically inspired allegations."
The campaign provided no evidence for the claim that the allegations are "politically inspired."
Anyone, Democrat or Republican, should be prosecuted for wrongdoing. St. Paul's city council should be soon investigated.

After fighting the dirty scum that run Ramsey Action Program Inc. - aka - RAP. and St. Paul from 9-1995. Remember one thing you are lower then Norm Coleman, "why you ask".
