Tens of thousands of dollars may have been embezzled from a St. Paul church, police said today.

Officials with the Church of St. Bernard's in the city's North End contacted police Wednesday and reported more than $100,000 was missing, said Peter Panos, police spokesman. Officials are unsure of the exact amount and accountants are going through the church's books to see if any of the money can be found for, Panos said.

A former employee is suspected, according to a police report. No one has been arrested, Panos said.

The money is believed to have been stolen between July 2007 and May 2008, the report said.

The church discovered the problem when a bank contacted them to say there wasn't enough money to cover the normal monthly expenses, Panos said.

Police are investigating.

Hi All,

Remember this church? A Democracy helped organize a protest against this church. Many of you were there.

Here is the story

That story was way too long and weirdly detailed. DOn't know what it has to do with the church being robbed.

Are you saying that Deb robbed the church.

Deb probably wouldn't have been allowed in the Church - the evil heathen that she is...

It sounds to me like they may need to check out Father Mike. Since we have heard no problems from the boys at the school he may be stealing money for those funny things Catholic priests do. He definitely sounds like a scoundrel.

10:38, if you can't take the time or have the interest to read the story I surely am not going to draw a picture for you.

What I always love about the stories here is that unrelated events are always linked together in a way to form a conspiracy of hundreds and thousands of people.

That article about Diva's was great! It is simply amazing the paranoia that runs rabid in these posts.

We have the Cathlic Priest and the City Council member and the Jewish Real Estate Developer and a bunch of gang bangers all working together in this grand conspiracy to get this woman for the apparent crime of walking around in her bra and panties one afternoon...

Hmmm sure... that's the ticket...

Plot thickens: Diva's Bar vacant over 1 year, has not been placarded
as vacant registered building
Why is it Andy Dawkins is the lawyer and Fred Maclus(sp) is the owner and that they do not comply with the city ordinance?
Its well known Deb was the "girlfriend Of Fred"

Chuck,

#1. We have a mystery at Saint Bernards, "a thief". Not no ordinary thief, a thief who stole over a 100 grand.

#2. Also, folks here at A Democracy have challenged the priest integrity in the past. I'm not suggesting he stole this money.

#3. I could hardly post this article without recalling the blogs relationship to past experiences with this church.

I find it very interesting there is so much controversy around this church.

Sorry Bob, I was only commenting on the Diva report that you linked.

As to who ripped off the church my guess is as always...

Gambling money.

Fred had one of his goons steal it for destroying his girlfriends hobby. Now he's got to hang around her all day.

Diva's was a pretty good bar though. Too bad Maculas was mixed up in it.

It was the Church who was behind the push against Divas becasue they wanted her land. God didn't like it and punished them with some bad luck....end of story.

Hey Chuck, you always put your two cents in.
Bob, I believe Deb told us that St .Bernard's once had the pull tab booth at Diva's Bar.
I remember Deb saying how all the conflict started after Diva's bar stopped St .Bernard's from making all that money.
Bob, do you recall how much the church made off the pull tabs each month?

Maybe the city council took the money, to pay for their launches or to pay for a Democrats campaign.

Everything revolves around money,
money for this and Money for that.
Thanks for puting this up about
St. Bernard's Church.
what did the pull tabs have to do with anything.
I don't think Father Mike had anything to do with it, but one of the people that ran the pull tab both might have.
We will see.
Chuck, what do you think.
