Murderer's girlfriend accused of telling St. Paul cop she'll kill his 10-year-old son

The girlfriend of a convicted murderer was charged Thursday with making terroristic threats after prosecutors say she threatened to kill the 10-year-old son of a St. Paul police officer.

The undercover investigator has worked on "numerous investigations involving boyfriends and associates" of the woman charged, Candyce Marlee Jones, 32, of Maplewood, the criminal complaint said.

The officer, who wasn't identified in the complaint, has executed search warrants at Jones' and relatives' homes and assisted with courtroom security during the murder trial of Tyvarus Lindsey, Jones' boyfriend.

Lindsey, 25, was described by a prosecutor this month as "one of the most dangerous criminals in St. Paul." He was sentenced to almost 36 years in prison Dec. 11 for killing a man in St. Paul in 2005 for his jewelry.

Police also have called Lindsey a "person of interest" in four other St. Paul homicides - the March triple slaying of a woman, her fiancé and her 15-year-old daughter; and a December 2006 shooting death. He has not been charged in those cases.

Jones, also known as Tanika Fears, was taken into custody during Lindsey's trial for refusing to testify, said the complaint against her, filed by the Ramsey County attorney's office and charging her with two counts of terroristic threats.

The complaint gave this account:

The officer, assigned to a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives taskforce, was off duty Sunday and shopping with his 10-year-old son at the Walgreens at 2635 Rice St. in Roseville. He saw Jones and the girlfriend of Lindsey's brother, who is in prison for a home invasion robbery.

They approached him, and Jones asked the officer if the boy was his son. She said, in front of the boy, "With the people you're harassing, he'll end up dead and I'll see to it." The officer and his son left the store.

Jones followed them and photographed the officer and his son as they got into their car and drove away.

The officer "is very familiar with Jones and her associates and knows that they are capable of violence," the complaint said. The officer "was afraid for his son's safety based on what Jones said."

Roseville police interviewed the officer's son, who said he also feared for his safety. Police interviewed a Walgreens employee, who said she hadn't heard exactly what was said, but "did hear the female accuse the male of harassing her daughter and did hear the female say she would see the male's son again," the complaint said.

The officer had interviewed Jones' daughter as part of a separate investigation.

Police arrested Jones on Thursday and questioned her. She told police the officer was a "bad cop."

"She told the investigator that while she was at the Walgreens she saw someone peeking around the corner at her," the complaint said. She asked the officer whether the boy with him was his son. The officer said that he was and that "his son wasn't going to go to jail like Jones' daughter."

Jones said there was no further conversation or threats and denied following the officer out of the store.

Police reviewed security video from Walgreens and saw the officer and his son leaving the store and Jones following them "with an object consistent with a camera in her hands," the complaint said.

Jones is being held on $100,000 bail at the Ramsey County Jail.

"Cops shrug off threats all the time on the street when they're working, but this is crossing a very, very serious line," said Dave Titus, St. Paul Police Federation president. "Threatening an officer on his own time, with a family member, is unacceptable."

Jones has been convicted 17 times, of which four were felonies, between 1995 and July, according to state records.

A man charged in federal court last week with conspiring to distribute more than 20,000 Ecstasy pills talked about "getting rid" of another St. Paul police officer to protect his drug business, and authorities found a photograph of the officer in the man's car, according to a criminal complaint.

Eric these are the low income people I talk of.Do you think they were home owners?Nope, renters.I hope the city profiles during traffic stops and uses the code to shut down properties that house these types.

And I'm a bad guy for believing in that?Eric I know you believe in every word I say but are to much a chickin shit to say it.If you didn't believe in what I say you'd be against the city using code enforcement as a tool for behavior of tenants.

George,
That woman is probably the same race as I am. You can't tell by what people look like. I've gone over this 100 times. In my neighborhood on the East Side, we have ownership at over 80%.

I'd shot that woman on the spot in Walgrens if she would have threatened my family. I don't think I would have hesitated for a second. I'd rather risk my chances with a jury than with a psycho.

Don't call me a chickenshit you old bastard. I'm not going to waste my time challenging you to back your words up and meet me at Vogels, Governors or Schweitz's bar.

Guys like you that are so full of hate and fear, you're usually the biggest cowards around. You see change and it scares you so you stay in your house and grow bitter. You don't talk to your neighbors. You call the cops when you see more than two of them gathered. You recall the good ol' days when you didn't have to be confronted with anything challenging.

You're a relic, the weak, and you're dying off. The world is growing to be a better place the more each of you die off.

George, you just don't matter.

Hey you talk to your dfl party they
are the ones that let her live here.

By change the law give them more
rights then a homeowner.

Tenant have right to live any place they want and there is nothing you can do about.

You want to mess with lordlands.
just remember someday you need one and you put him or her out business. Talk to people the writes the law. They gave them the power to do. Like I said to
you before check out things first.

Get to the root of the problem.
It is the rep. and senators of the
great state Minn.. They are ones to blame. Not the landlords.

And what did the landlord do? Or the house? Nothing.

You such an ass. Be real Man put your full name down.

Get a life.

From the article-

"She told the investigator that while she was at the Walgreens she saw someone peeking around the corner at her," the complaint said. She asked the officer whether the boy with him was his son. The officer said that he was and that "his son wasn't going to go to jail like Jones' daughter."

Jones said there was no further conversation or threats and denied following the officer out of the store.

My assumption is- After hearing this stupid comment by the police officer, Ms. Jones said something in anger seeking to lash out at the officer to hurt him emotionally as he hurt her with his statement.

It is probably nothing more than this, and yet the County and police seem to be getting all the mileage they can out of this.

I feel for Ms. Jones child because her mother doesn't have the ability to respond to a stupid statement with class. I feel for the officers child because his father would say something so stupid that would provoke this kind of response.

This is an example of a person with authority expressing themself as being better then another person by looking down upon them and making a statement to degrade them. That is the way many, not all law enforcement officers feel about people that have made bad choices in their life or have family members that may have broken the law. Its really a disgrace how law enforcement officers conduct themselves and disrespect others whether they are in or out of uniform.

Eric you say "The world is growing to be a better place the more each of you die off." How is the black community doing? Face the facts. There are big problems in the black community, even Bill Cosby agrees. I don't judge people by race but when I see minorities causing most the problems in the inner city I call it for what it is.Check incarceration rates among the black community,Check the graduation rate among blacks, check the employment rate among blacks, check the rate of blacks on welfare,SSI,Government assistance, check college graduation rates among blacks and so on.You will find black communities are having real problems in these areas.BUT LET ME GUESS ITS MY FAULT,THE OLD WHITE GUY RIGHT?

And Eric I do matter.I work.Pay taxes, donate money to abused kids.Talk to my neighbors and support the cities tactics of code enforcement for behavior that you don't believe is happening. So keep your head in the sand.

I'll see you at Vogels.Lets see if you can pick me out.If you do I'll let you kick my ass with out a fight. You prove my point violence to solve diplomacy.

Go gettem' TIGER.

Oh I agree Les its not the landlord. But the State Government isn't going to stop the gravy train from Indiana,Chicago,Detriot. So the city needs to stand up and start putting landlords out of business that rent to these criminals.

If you don't like it then be mad at people like Eric who turn the other way while we do what we have to at any cost.Atleast Chuck acknowledges what the cities doing and supports it.Eric on the other hand thinks the code inspectors are writing up peeling paint to better the housing for tenants.

You probably are a good guy Les but are your tenants?

"Even Bill Cosby"? Don't know what that means like Cosby is some sort of low-life and even he recognizes our problems. I do know that I not only acknowledge problems in the community but, I spend a lot of time working toward solutions, not blaming "old white guys". That's your job to blame others.

While you're out screaming about a minority of the total number of minorities moving here, I'm working to expand educational, professional and political opportunities for for the others.

Listen you fossil, I have never condoned, turned away from or ignored criminal activity. Criminals need to be arrested, tried and imprisoned if found guilty. Property owners who can prove unequal treatment should be compensated and for the overall good, a consistent system of enforcement across the city needs to apply.

What I don't condone is across the board the board discrimination. Doesn't matter where you come from, or what your personal situation is, you have the right to opportunity just like anyone else.

Personally, I've been in politics and civic activities for over a decade, been appointed to different posts by three different mayors. Every step of the way I have worked to be sure the opportunity for involvement from minorities was present. i don't force outcomes but, I certainly push for opportunity.

One organization I volunteer for streses hard the point of self-sufficiency and delay of gratification on our young people. Two years before Bill Cosby made his speech in Maryland, we made it our mission. For the record, it works. In spite of what you bitch about, we see kids taking advantage of school and being OK with working minimum wage jobs part-time instead of drugs for immediate money.

You can also catch me mentoring at Phalen.

See George, when you say I talk out of both sides of my mouth, it can only mean that I talk of fairness AND enforcement. You however only seem to speak out of your ass. You support fear (like another George we know) because it makes you relevant.

George you wouldn't be 'letting' me kick your ass. It's just how things happen. Its not my only option so stuff that back where pooped it out. I'm sure I've already out-paced you on any other measurements in life. Education, great family, civic activity, career, you name it.

Like I said, you're old, weak-minded and full of bitter hate. That's going to lay an ass-whooping on you better than anyone else can. You're beating yourself man. Froggy too.

Eric
I'll be at Vogels by 4:30. I'm sure you'll recognize me.

I am a DFLer at my choice, not their (whomever that may be) recruitment. I probably won't get re-elected come next elections. Whatever the case, I'm certainly not a 'henchman'. I'd probably have more influence if I was.

To most of you, the DFL has become a boogeyman to be booed the moment you hear it. How many even know the structure and relationship between DFL electeds, activists, voters and funders? None. If you did, you'd knwo that there are more cliques there than in high school.

I've laid out what I do. What do you and George do to better society? Aside from bitching behind your computer?

We Are All Prisoners Now

By Paul Craig Roberts

“They’re locking them up today

They’re throwing away the key

I wonder who it’ll be tomorrow, you or me?”

The Red Telephone (LOVE, 1967)

12/26/07 "ICH" -- - At Christmas time it has been my habit to write a column in remembrance of the many innocent people in prisons whose lives have been stolen by the US criminal justice (sic) system that is as inhumane as it is indifferent to justice. Usually I retell the cases of William Strong and Christophe Gaynor, two men framed in the state of Virginia by prosecutors and judges as wicked and corrupt as any who served Hitler or Stalin.

This year is different. All Americans are now imprisoned in a world of lies and deception created by the Bush Regime and the two complicit parties of Congress, by federal judges too timid or ignorant to recognize a rogue regime running roughshod over the Constitution, by a bought and paid for media that serves as propagandists for a regime of war criminals, and by a public who have forsaken their Founding Fathers.

Americans are also imprisoned by fear, a false fear created by the hoax of “terrorism.” It has turned out that headline terrorist events since 9/11 have been orchestrated by the US government. For example, the alleged terrorist plot to blow up Chicago’s Sears Tower was the brainchild of a FBI agent who searched out a few disaffected people to give lip service to the plot devised by the FBI agent. He arrested his victims, whose trial ended in acquittal and mistrial.

Many Europeans regard 9/11 itself as an orchestrated event. Former cabinet members of the British, Canadian and German governments and the Chief of Staff of the Russian Army have publicly expressed their doubts about the official 9/11 story. Recently, a former president of Italy, Francesco Cossiga, said in an interview with the newspaper, Corriere della Sera (November 30, 2007), that “democratic elements in America and Europe, with the Italian center-left in the forefront, now know that the 9/11 attack was planned and executed by the American CIA and Mossad in order to blame the Arab countries, and to persuade the Western powers to undertake military action both in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

It is unclear whether Cossiga was being sarcastic about the opinion of skeptics or merely reporting what people think. I have written to him asking for clarification and will report any reply that I receive. Apparently, the Italian media has not offered a clarification.

Cossiga’s statement has not been reported by a US newspaper or TV channel. Raising doubts among Americans about the government is not a strong point of the corporate media. Americans live in a world of propaganda designed to secure their acquiescence to war crimes, torture, searches and police state measures, military aggression, hegemony and oppression, while portraying Americans (and Israelis) as the salt of the earth who are threatened by Muslims who hate their “freedom and democracy.”

Americans cling to this “truth” while the Bush regime and a complicit Congress destroy the Bill of Rights and engineer the theft of elections.

Freedom and democracy in America have been reduced to no-fly lists, spying without warrants, arrests without warrants or evidence, permanent detention despite the constitutional protection of habeas corpus, torture despite the prohibition against self-incrimination--the list goes on and on. http://www.truthnews.us/?p=1115]

In today’s fearful America, a US Senator, whose elder brothers were (1) a military hero killed in action, (2) a President of the United States assassinated in office, (3) an Attorney General of the United States and likely president except he was assassinated like his brother, can find himself on the no-fly list. Present and former high government officials, with top secret security clearances, cannot fly with a tube of toothpaste or a bottle of water despite the absence of any evidence that extreme measures imposed by “airport security” makes flying safer. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071221/us_nm/security_airports_dc;_ylt=ApzEobAIQMfiX02LTvKbk1UXIr0F

Elderly American citizens with walkers and young mothers with children are meticulously searched because US Homeland Security cannot tell the difference between an American citizen and a terrorist.

All Americans should note the ominous implications of the inability of Homeland Security to distinguish an American citizen from a terrorist.

When Airport Security cannot differentiate a US Marine General recipient of the Medal of Honor from a terrorist, Americans have all the information they need to know. http://www.homeofheroes.com/news/archives/2002_0100_foss.html

Any and every American can be arrested by unaccountable authority, held indefinitely without charges and tortured until he or she can no longer stand the abuse and confesses.

This predicament, which can now befall any American, is our reward for our stupidity, our indifference, our gullibility, and our lack of compassion for anyone but ourselves.

Some Americans have begun to comprehend the tremendous financial costs of the “war on terror.” But few understand the cost to American liberty. Last October a Democrat-sponsored bill, “Prevention of Violent Radicalism and Homegrown Terrorism,” passed the House of Representatives 404 to 6. http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/12/20/5920/

Only six members of the House voted against tyrannical legislation that would destroy freedom of speech and freedom of assembly and that would mandate 18 months of congressional hearings to discover Americans with “extreme” views who could be preemptively arrested.

What better indication that the US Constitution has lost its authority when elected representatives closest to the people pass a bill that permits the Bill of Rights to be overturned by the subjective opinion of members of an “Extremist Belief

Dr. Roberts was Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury for Economic Policy in the Reagan administration. He is credited with curing stagflation and eliminating “Phillips curve” trade-offs between employment and inflation, an achievement now on the verge of being lost by the worst economic mismanagement in US history.

I noticed that when Chuck and Chuck were ready to strike out, nobody called them thugs and reduced their worth to gangbangers- only when he black guy does it, is the double standard applied. Whatever. I can take it. As you see George, people like you have never been a deterrent to what I think I have to do. You just don't matter.

Oh, and white people don't have worry about me kicking their asses. Most people don't. Don't threaten me and/or my family and everything will be fine.

As far as you talking about code enforcement doing your dirty work, you don't seem to known there either. Back when you were shooting your mouth off a couple of days ago, I asked if anyone knew you and they didn't of course. Code enforcement does the work of the city based on what the people have asked for. Methinks your just a shit starter dropping key phrases to fire people up.
