Shots were fired where a group of teenagers was playing basketball in a residential area of St. Paul Friday night, injuring a 5-year-old and a 16-year-old. Both were shot in the leg.
Police spokesman Tom Walsh said the two were taken to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the shooting happened at about 8:25 p.m. at 650 Central Avenue, near Dale Street.
Police Sergeant Dan Anderson said police "were not getting a lot of cooperation from the crowd" that was playing basketball.
The Rev. Byron Moore, who was sitting nearby on the steps outside the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church, said the group scattered when three to four shots were fired.
Moore said shootings are unusual on the block, which has several longstanding families living on it.
Walsh said no one had been arrested by late Friday night.
Further details were not immediately available.
