Man opens fire into Costello's Bar; West Side incident apparently drug-related

Shootings on St. Paul's West Side and Cathedral Hill killed one person and injured three Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Police said the incidents were not related.

Robert Renville, 20, of St. Paul, died about 8 p.m. Wednesday at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, said Tom Walsh, a police spokesman. Renville was shot during an apparent drug deal gone bad near Ohio and Stevens streets shortly after 6 p.m.

Several shots were fired into the car Renville was in, and two other people in the car were injured, Walsh said.

Livon Lucket, 19, of St. Paul, was shot in the leg. Russell Robinson, 40, of St. Paul, was shot in the arm. Another person who hadn't been shot drove away and followed an erratic path through the West Side, stopping at Isabel and Wabasha streets.

Police arrested Lamont Wilson, 24, of St. Paul, on suspicion of murder and are looking for other suspects, Walsh said. Wilson hasn't been charged.

Police said Wednesday night they believed gunshots had been fired in several locations on the West Side, though it appears the only place shots were fired was near Ohio and Stevens streets, Walsh said. Police also initially thought the shooting was gang-related, but the motive is now reported to have been drugs, Walsh said.

Meanwhile, about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, a man opened fire into Costello's Bar & Grill at 393 Selby Ave. A 21-year-old man was shot twice in the buttocks and once in the leg, but his injuries weren't life-threatening, Walsh said.

The shooter never set foot in the bar. He shot from outside, through a door as it was opened, said a witness. The man fired four to five shots, Walsh said.

There were about 35 people in the bar, but the victim apparently was the target. Police are still sorting out the motive, and Walsh said the victim isn't cooperating with the investigation. No one has been arrested.

A man opened fire in Costello's Bar & Grill in St. Paul's Cathedral Hill neighborhood this morning, injuring one person, police said.

A 21-year-old man was shot twice in the buttocks and once in the leg, police said. His injuries aren't life threatening, said Tom Walsh, a police spokesman.

The shooting happening at 393 Selby Ave. about 1:30 a.m., when a man walked into the bar and fired a gun four to five times, Walsh said. He was apparently targeting the man who was shot.

Police are investigating the motive for the shooting, but Walsh said it wasn't connected to a Wednesday night homicide on St. Paul's West Side.

The victim isn't cooperating with the investigation and no one has been arrested, Walsh said.

Close it up like they wanted to do to Diva's Bar.....like they didn't do to the Starting Gate Bar and like they are not going to do to Costello's Bar either. They were just after Divas, and this makes it pretty obvious if they dont' close em up.

Well if you don't go to St.Paul you are smart for that, by the way the Stargate may very well be in Maplewood but it is still Ramsey Co.
