Councilman Helgens Redevelopment Agenda
Hi All,
I have conferred with Councilman Helgen and he was not able to comment on Divas lounge. Apparently there is adverse actions being taken. This being in court and all I am assuming he is bound by legalities from making a statement concerning this issue.
However, he was so kind as to share with me his redevelopment agenda. His comments are below. Thank You for the input Councilman Helgen.
Councilman Lee Helgen-
Regarding my redevelopment agenda. I have been focused on revitalizing
the Rice Street Corridor to help foster reinvestment and attract new
businesses. I am also working to address the condition of the housing
stock. Currently, the city has over 800 vacant houses, many of which
are in very poor condition. I have pressed for much more active role
from the city in getting these houses rehabilitated and getting blighted
properties removed.
While I respect property rights, I do believe that property owners have
an obligation to maintain their property and do their part to keep the
city a desirable place for people to live. I think the changes moving
through the process to create a fire certificate of occupancy for rental
properties will help provide a more structured and regular process for
code enforcement.
In the end, if our city is to remain an desirable place to do business,
live and raise a family we must encourage redevelopment along our aging
commercial corridors, and we must improve the overall quality of the
housing stock. For this to be success we must do more to help our
residents get connected to good paying jobs and create a sense of
optimism for the future.

I am sure your intentions are good Mr. Helgen, only what happened before my eyes at Saint Paul Issues and Forums over the Jessamine house was disturbing to me.
I am also a regular of Divas lounge. I play Bingo there and it is a nice place. A good many of us who patronize this establishment are long time citizens of this neighborhood.Please come in and play some bingo and have some fun with us.
Deb Johnson brings life to this place. She is a fun personality.
I looked at the house personally on Jessamine, and there was nothing wrong with it. I have worked repairing houses for over two decades and I know in my mind what I saw at 14 Jessamine, and for Helgen to try and say he is working to address the condition of the housing stock and how all the vacant houses are in such poor shape is a joke. Helge says he wants people to invest in the community, but it's not going to happen as long as the current administration is more interesting in punihing people rather than working with them.
The issue revolving around Jessamine had a lot to do with the threats I had recieved from St.Paul law enforcement, again my options were to become an informant or my house would be written up with a code compliance beyond what I could afford... these figures between law enforcement and code enforcement were discussed in front of me and several others when I refused to do the dirty deeds that were requested of me. I myself did what I still feel was proper and that was get the help I needed for my addiction. I was then told if I didn't sell to the proposed buyer that Steve Magner sent with a purchase offer that I would be looking at hole in the ground, which is exactly what the outcome was. Mr. Helgen if you happen to read this I would love to hear from you on how you feel that this is justified in your eyes. For any city representative to offer that a person continue using drugs and work with them over getting the help they actually need in my eyes is beyond what words I would write out of respect for other readers, I feel the city and their officials retaliated on me for getting my life back.... It did make things more difficult than what I had already done to myself, a supportive city for people trying to get the help they need I would think would work much better than a distructive group of officials. Bottom line the law officials should do their job of catching criminals and stop risking families lives by forcing them to be informants and taking away the little they have left...THEIR HOMES.

Wow, talk about your Gladous Kravitz, now they're peeking through the broken windows. And people with problems in the past don't deserve the things that you have, is that what you're saying? A roof, food, clothing, freedom? It's a good thing you are anonymous because it would be shown that you are either neighbor of or employee of Helgen.

*****You don't need to tell us the truth, Lee Helgen told us the truth a long time ago on SPIF. He was glad they tore Jessamine down. As far as I'm concerned, he's told us everything we need to know about him. He was happy to see Jessamine tore down, Nancy lose her home, and her mom lose out ob the contract for deed payments.
Thee were never any arrests or convictions at Nancy's house for drugs or prostitution, so I am assuming you are just using a smear tactic to add legitimacy to your bull shit......much like you try to smear Diva's owner, and then finally Bob through his connection with her.
Bob's connection to all these people is that he is smart enough to realize if he don't stand up for them when they are getting screwed, then who is going to stand up for Bob when the government wants to screw him over?

The way I remember it, Hells Angels were the ones who held the mortgage on the property after that Julian guy sold it out from under Nancy's nose.

I think this is a really low blow from this poster. I'm sorry Nancy, Deb! I'm sure my past is much darker than both of you and I am a productive citizen.I know the both of you are too!
People grow older, they mature.. The past seems so distant and sometimes hard to live with. Dwelling on the past isn't good. It's self distructive.This is what healing & forgivness is about. It's never to late to change for the better.

The longer they can keep her down and have her feel like she is worthless, the more she will believe it and stay out of their way and their face and their silly little e-meetings. It is the same with the bullies that we went to school with. They make everyone else feel like crap so that they can feel good. Only in this case, they are afraid that Nancy will also pursue this matter in court. That would be a big blow for them. Rather like being sent to the principal's office only now we're in the adult world with jails and fines instead of detention and essays.

3M is leaving. Ford plant. one small business after another is folding or moving someplace like Wisconsin or North or South Dakota.
The smoking bans were another kick in the teeth to small business. many of us feel the City Counsel will do what ever it takes to get elected, even demonize a business to ride a fabricated wave of public discoarse to a re-election
I won't let that post bother me in the least, everyone has a right to their opinion. I know the actual truth and that is what really matters, and you know That is another reason I am willing to sign my name to what I write. The person that put that kind of judgement on me doen't know me and didn't even have the courage to sign theiur name, why because they also probaly know deep down insidee that the allegations they made against me are false.
The truth to the matter is, yes I had a drug addiction and some legal issues that went with it. But guess what I dealt with it and am doing great, the best part is I was able to do it without kissing any of the city officials asses like you are doing.
The next issue on the prositution I have no idea where that came from cause I have never been involved in that kind of behavior, but if that helps you to feel better about justifying the way the city handled my situation so be it, I don't care think what you would like to think I am not here to impress you, I live a good life now and my future looks even brighter . You know why...I will be the one out their to help other individuals get on the road to a better life in a positive way. The negative attitude you have will not help the future for anyone around you.
The third issue about the biker gang is also false, no biker bitch here. That was a partner the guy I sold my house to took on, in which I recieved a bad check as payment on the house and have not been payed for as of yet.
As far as legal issues on my house there was never a conviction of any kind made from that house, raid yes, drugs found no. Addiction by me, yes. You want to know something just ask I have nothing to hid, I speak the truth and sign my name. I am proud of what I have done with my life and am currently studying criminal justice with a 3.94 grade average, not bad for a druggy huh.
The allegations made here against me just shows another individual that feels they need to justify what happened to make their own life of kissing the city officials asses feel good.

Thank you for your comments Nancy! From me and all here who give a damn, were sorry there is fools who will do anything to discredit the truth from coming out.
So there you have it folks, more lies from what I am assuming is an entrenched City Bureaucrat.
It seems the truth always prevails here.
The truth will always prevail with these SPIF'ers type arguments because they can never debate anything based on fact and subatance. Their arguments and beliefs get clouded and their arguments side tracked with their pre-concieved notions and their need to destroy all those who do not ignorantly agree. Go look at their blog.....they're out of business....nothing to talk about now that they have thrown everyone with dissenting opinions out. Won't be long before they get Nancy either.
I remember last winter when St. Paul Issues Forum had a little more tolerance for other viewpoints and they were telling Nancy how she was taking up with the wrong company hanging around with any of the property rights people.
A lot of time has passed since then and now and Nancy has had some time to see what each side has to offer. I wonder what she thinks today?
There is no wonder about what Nancy thinks today...where do you see me posting, it is here where people are treated as individual as we each are and with the respect we deserve. I do admit I have posted a few times at the E- Click aka E-Democracy only when I feel they are knocking down on someone and I can't resist speaking up... because I don't really care if they like me or what I have to say, I have a right to speak and I will do it when I feel like it. I know what I am doing and what my future plans are, I have a goal that I am working on that will prove many points I have made... All good things take time and patience...I have plenty of both.

Although this may be in the wrong subject heading, I wanted to make note of this previously and now I cannot find the subject post.
I find it most interesting that a previous poster made the remark that people here like to send code enforcement out to the homes of the people that disagree with the people on this blog.
What came to mind right away was the fact that the argument here always seems to be one group of people that don't like government abuse when it comes to their property rights, and another group of people that seems to think that no matter how many people allege the same thing , that it just couldn't happen because governemnt never does anything wrong. They then promptly go on to bash epople about not wanting to fix their houses and how they endanger public saftey, etc.
What I find so interesting is that the group who seems to be afraid of having code enforcement sent to their homes are the same group that thinks it is not only OK for code enfrocement to go to the homes of everyone else, but to abuse their authority when they get there.
I have a question to ask of these folks that want to defend the governemnts actions time after time.
If your home is the condition you expect everyone elses home to be in, why are you so afraid of code enforcement paying you a visit?
Please answer, as I am trying to understand this issue in a rational and logical way.

The city should consider the fact that when they lose the lawsuits, which they will, and my educated guess would be that if it goes to a jury, and after they give triple damages, that $100 million dollars would be the combined judgement, there will be people coming out of the woodwork to sue the city. It would in my opinion be wise to quit the illegal tactics and stop making new potential litigants.
Not only will political careers end but with any luck some jail terms will begin.
This city should think before continuing their bad, illegal and immoral behavior
You are assuming that they are capable of thinking, and if they were were, they wouldn't have done the things that got them sued in the first place.
