I went to the demonstration. It was over by the time I got up there.

I got out of my car and hit the block anyway and talked to people on the street.

I spoke with 2 elderly women and they told me the best way to cleanup the neighborhood was to get rid of the crack houses.

I spoke to a "CLOWN" on a corner who was promting the sale of a home and he said the same thing.

I am confused as always, concerning this subject. "GET RID OF THE CRACK HOUSE"! Since when did a house have the ability to sell crack?

I informed these 3 people the best I could with limited time and I gave them a Watchdog. I was hoping there was going to be a big crowd still around so I could pass out Watchdogs and speak to as many people as possible.

I think the City see's these types of demostrations as a way to promote their assault on affordable housing.

I'd sure be interested in others opinions.

Well Bob, you asked for it. So here is a sarcastic opinion. How about the cops doing their jobs and getting rid of the drugs. No, that's too hard. So hell yah, get rid of the house. Who does that landlord think they are conducting an honest and legal business and trying to make a decent living. It's the landlord's fault because he is the keeper of all. The dealers move and business is open again. Of course that mom with the 3 kids who really could have used that low income unit will have to look elsewhere. Of course they may be sparce. And around and around we go. Makes your head spin, don't it?

Or maybe get rid of public schools because that's where all the well to do kids get their drugs. Sounds just as stupid. Or how about the attorney who defend the dealers.

Get rid of the corner mom & pop store because they hang out there too. Let's get rid of the parks, ooohh, they're there too. Let's put up cameras everywhere and pay and/or threaten kids, neighbors, student and friends to snitch on them and then they can be put in the line of fire. It's cost effective and makes everyone feel better.

The perfect example of why we need 200 more police officers for the city: My daughter works in a St.Paul restaurant where the police come to eat (everyone is entitled to a lunch break). Today this officer comes in and more or less brags about how he is actually on a theft call, and states; thats ok they can wait I am hungry. Now most jobs you have to wait til your break to take a lunch break, I am sure when it became lunch break time he took lunch break.

Sounds like business as usual to me. A few years back the police were chasing some guy with a gun and when they went to chase him through some gaming arcade, they found an on duty police officer in there playing games and not paying any attention to the chase which he could hear on his radio. Anyone remember what happened to that guy?
