The city of St. Paul has declared a snow emergency starting tonight.
Beginning at 9 p.m., residents should not park on streets marked "night plow route" or "night plow route this side of street" until the snow is plowed to the curb. Plowing usually takes eight to 12 hours, depending on the amount of snow.
All downtown streets are night plow routes.
Daytime plowing will begin Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. Residents should not park on these routes until the snow is plowed to the curb. There are no signs on day plow routes but are the east-west residential streets and one side of north-south residential streets that do not have plowing signs. Exceptions to these rules are well marked.
Tagging and towing continues for 96hours after the snow emergency has begun.

As a former resident of Saint Paul, I feel for all of you who haven't fled the city yet!
Last week I stopped by Lulu's Market on Selby to get a pack of smokes for my ole lady. When I left the store I traveled south to Hague and took Hague back around to Selby. WOW! I felt like I was in a washing machine. The street looked like it had been plowed at least once this winter.
Here in the land of exile just outside the city limits, my streets are plowed right down to the pavement. It's been this way all winter. I sit amazed and watch the plow go by plowing a bare street after a snow fall, no sh*t! Here is the kicker folk's, my city plows my side walk next to the street out front of my home. :)
In Saint Paul your side streets look like they were plowed at least one time this winter.
At my last resident on the 1700 block of Selby in Saint Paul I didn't have off street parking. I had to move my vehicles Sunday night and Monday night to opposite sides of the street for street maintenance that rarely happened. But one thing for sure if I forgot to move my vehicles I got tagged with a $25 ticket, like so many of the other neighbors who would forget to move their cars.
With the revenue generated with tickets on Selby,from Snelling to Fairview the city could afford to keep that neighborhood plowed responsibly and give the tax payers their money's worth.
The citizens of Saint Paul are paying record high property tax's and your side streets look like crap. The cost doesn't end with super high property tax's, bumpy ice rutted side streets are putting enormous wear and tear on your automobiles.
I will do all I can to make sure Saint Paul is the most livable city in America, before I move back home. :)
Bob if Saint Paul didn't have on street parking like the Burbs, it wouldn't have that problem either.
The issue in cities as opposed to the burbs is you have to tell people to move their cars and you have to have a system that allows some cars to be on the street somewhere.
...and no, your small fine doesn't pay jack shit towards the plowing costs. It hardly pays to send someone out to ticket you.

And, the Saint Paul system is quicker which means they may have declared it a day later but they will be done at the same time. Mpls takes 48 hours to do a total snow plow, Saint Paul takes 24 hours.

Quicker my ass! I have a friend who lives over by Maryland & Western and their streets have ony been plowed once this winter. Looks like a 3rd world country over there.
Some council members steal the snow plowing money and use it to demolish houses the poor live in.

I know my tickets wouldn't pay the infamous taggers wages. Although you can bet the farm the combined total of tickets every week in that 4 block stretch of Selby does pay a good part of his wages.
Chuck you want us to believe,the side streets are ice rutted because not enough neighbors are moving their cars allowing the plows to do a good job. That would be almost believable except for the fact the messy side streets are uniform through out the entire city.
What happened to tagging and towing, if citizens not in compliance aren't following the rules?
I am probably going to piss off some auto repair shops because they are the only ones benefiting from this. Or are they? Where is that tax money being spent if it isn't being spent on keeping side streets plowed adequately?

How many complete snow emergencies do you think the City budgets for in a winter?

Think again, its like 4 to 6.
There isn't that much money in the budget to do them.
Why are the side streets so bad this year? Do you remember the mix of snow and rain we got in the one storm? Plows don't move water very well and that crap froze in creative patterns. It clears from the main drags because of the crowning of the streets and that the sewers aren't blocked by six feet of snow in the gutters as the side streets are.
In your burb, they were able to go back down the street curb to curb the next day.

Resident- We are paying 3 times the property tax'z we were 3 years ago and look at the side streets.
All streets are crowned Chucky. That is how we build roads.
Trashman, you and I know the city could do a better job of keeping the streets plowed, they have done so in the past.
Chuck is a city hall defender, his response is expected.
I'm am curious Chuck, the audio of the fair housing lawsuits has been up and you choose to respond to me concerning street plowing. What, cat got your tongue?

You all ways come back by saying how great St.paul is.
I glad I moved out of that treacheries town 6 yo. ago.

Right...because it ain't cheap to fund your own, triply redundant Human Rights Department, or to run a top notch bicycle advisory board, or to install refrigeration equipment to freeze hockey rinks better than old man winter, or to buy leopard skin upholstery.
Plow the streets? Sorry, bub; no-can-do. Ride a bicycle like you're supposed to.

Its better then Chris Coleman taking it upon his self to transport someone in a unauthorized vehicle to the hospital, if that child would have died on the way the city would have been sued for more then the landlord will get, then Chris would have ended up doing time in Stillwater, Coleman is not a certified health care provider
Who was the driver, he will be looking for a new job for allowing Chris to play the hero.
The ambulance was their one minute later to transport the patient, and he knew it was on its way.

So $25 barely covers the cost of "sending" some braind-dead unionized thug with a patronage job to write a ticket?
I think I see the problem.
Why plow the streets when there are mounds in the center of the side streets, those mounds are so high that it tears the mufflers off cars.
They always hold off in the new year and the new budget, then at the years end in December they plow clean streets just to use up the budget. they need to show that the need for a higher budget for the next fiscal year.
We all heard that before when they raise you taxes.
The politicians need more personal pocket money.
