Hi All,
It is always sad to learn of the passing of an individual who's flame burned so bright. I'm sure he will be missed by everyone close to him.
From the article;
"Maddox promoted St. Paul with unusual antics over the years -- ranging from a skydiving Santa Claus to challenging politicians to fistfights".
My response;
Chicago style politics hasn't died with Maddox. We still have Repke and Mitchell. :) The last public invitation to a fist fight I know of was between Eric Mitchell and I.
Hard ass politics is alive and well in Saint Paul.
Counselman Lee Helgen (aka Clark Kent) is quick to fist fight anyone he doesn't agree with.
Leave it to MPR to screw up Maddox comments about the public. Ron would say that you have to figure out how to please the masses "of" asses that he was trying to get to the Taste, or bring downtown, or get behind hockey or whatever it was he was promoting. Ron knew that for an event to be a success you had to please the public or you wouldn't see "masses of asses," which is what fills seats... get it? Without masses of asses you don't make money, because the seats aren't filled.
Only the radio station of the upper crust could misquote that and have Ron saying "masses ARE asses."
God save us from the over educated.

I'll miss Ron. He was straight to the point, on target, and unorthodox. My guess is he was heartbroken over the direction the city has taken.
Wow. Another St Paul character dies. He was tough to the end and always working on something.
You guys would've loved him as he threatened kick my ass about ten years ago after we got into a long argument and I hung up on him. I had a lot of respect for him from that time on and always stayed at least a legs length from him.

It was nice talking with people at The Remembrance of Ron Maddox's and his great prosperity for Saint Paul, and The Taste Of Minnesota and how it help Saint Paul to become World known.
He was alway a great guy to me.
