Three of four seeking DFL endorsement address forum

Three of the four candidates for Ramsey County attorney responded to questions from a St. Paul audience Tuesday night about why they should be elected the county's top prosecutor in November.
The forum, held at the United Auto Workers Union Hall in Highland Park and sponsored by the Senate District 64 DFL and Congressional District 4 DFL, was open to those seeking the party's endorsement. The seat itself is nonpartisan.
Here's a capsule of each of their statements:
John Choi: St. Paul city attorney, age 39. Choi's family immigrated to the United States from South Korea in 1973, when he was a child. He grew up in the Skyline Towers apartment complex off Interstate 94 in St. Paul, among other places, and graduated from Hamline University's School of Law. He became a partner at "a very young age" at Kennedy and Graven and for the past four years has led the city attorney's office, with its 70 employees and an $8 million budget.
A favorite topic: Said he's a big supporter of alternative courts and finding creative solutions to keep people from re-offending. Example: His "driver diversion" program, which works to get offending drivers out of the revolving door of the criminal justice system.
Best quote: "We have to understand as prosecutors the fine line that exists between the investigating agency and the prosecution office. ... Your job is not to make the police happy."
Dave Pinto: Assistant Ramsey county attorney, age 37.
Specializes in prosecuting domestic abuse cases in which children are present. Formerly with Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi. Pinto grew up in Falcon Heights and Roseville and understands vulnerability, he said, because he was born blind (he's still blind in one eye). He graduated from Harvard University and got law and management degrees at the University of Virginia.
A favorite topic: The importance of intervening in kids' lives while they still have a chance to avoid crime and of being tough with the most serious offenders of any age.
Best quote: Summarizing his current work at the county attorney's office, he said, "I stand up to bullies."
David Schultz: Partner, Maslon Law Firm, age 50. Formerly a white-collar-crime prosecutor with the attorney general's office. Said he has more trial experience than any other candidate in the race.
He is most proud of the fact that he has "worked for justice for the last 25 years" as the chair of the board of the Innocence Project and as a member of the Council on Crime and Justice, among other things.
A favorite topic: Said he has been involved in more trials than any other candidate.
Best quote: Schultz said that being a county attorney requires courage. "I'm 50, and I have an infant. If that doesn't take courage. ... I carry my AARP card, and I carry my baby."
Not on the panel Tuesday was the fourth candidate in the race, Tammy Pust, 51, of Roseville. Pust was in the audience. She commented after the forum that it was "not the kind of race to bring a party platform to."
A Roseville City Council member, Pust said she has 26 years of legal experience. She is a partner at Parker Rosen, focusing on employment and education law. Her priorities are issues involving children and families, she said.

Your probably right.

John Choi is going to be the next County Attorney. Forcing people to take care of their property seems to be popular.

There you go. Look at that list. If Choi is elected we'll get more of the same. If we want to put the brakes on this I guess its time to think about joining a DFL caucus on tuesday.
Haha he is he only one who can get something done. keeping you liars at bay.
Good idea 3:42. Like they say: If you can't beat em, join em!
3:03, thank you for the list. Maybe they should have a code compliance.
u mean an inspection?
Most do and pass.
Looks like he has a lot of communist support.
This is America. We don't have communists you disgusting gutter trash.
Maybe we do but, its not illegal and it looks like a lot of Americans like them or they would n't be in office.
The only gutter trash are some of these politiicans that think the ends justify then means and they don't give a hoot who's rights they violate as long as their illegal agenda goes foreward.

11:48 AM,
There are a lot of commies in office because the public didn't get off their butt and vote.
Did any one here go to a caucus?
Chuck and I went.
I'm sure with all of the bitching and complaining that everyone who can walk that post anonymously here went.
If not, then its further proof that most on here are comfortable with complaining and won't lift a finger to support any of their complaints and need not be taken seriously.
Eric
I went to my caucus. This is the 2nd caucus I've ever attended. I was not planning to go, but I met one of the candidates for Ramsey County Attorney; Dave Pinto at a meet and greet that George Latimer held at his home.
I met Mr. Pinto and had the opportunity to talk with both him and his wife. A few days later, I was asked to be his coordinator at North High. So, I attended the caucus, signed up and was chosen as a delegate, and worked as a volunteer for Mr. Pinto.
The event was educational and very interesting. I learned a lot about the caucus process, the party and it's people, and the other candidates. I saw a lot of familiar faces, including some people I recognized from local blogs/forums.
I am glad that I attended, and I have been asked by Mr. Pinto's campaign to help them out at the upcoming conventions. I said that I will, because I am hoping that he will get the endorsement so he can go on to the primary and get elected as our next county attorney. For obvious reasons, I am very concerned about who leads the county attorney's office. So, I am doing my part...

I was out of town for a funeral or I would of gone. Otherwise only 3 of us went to one?
Only a few people here went to cacus. Thats why St. Paul gets what it deserves. Everybody complains but won't do nothing about it.
